Dear Freda, Can really empathize with your locking yourself out of your car--and in this heat! I realize the file you were looking for was in ref to a different surname than mine but would like to know where Evergreen is located in Monroe Co? And what genealogy records can be found there? Am still trying to find a clue as to the CRAWFORDs who lived there in Monroe Co circa 1832--1848/49? Sometimes local libraries have sources that aren't to be found anywhere else, which can be the "key" that opens that magic door to our past. Was so happy to see Roots Web Monroe mailing List established. Would like to hear from anyone on the list researching CRAWFORDs, who came from SC originally. Thanks for your help, Freda, regarding Evergreen Lib. Sincerely, Winkie CRAWFORD R WinkieFL@aol.com >>>>>>>>>> Freda, I went to the Library today in Evergreen, they didn't have the file I Kay>>>>>>>>>

I had never researched Wilcox County, but then I learned my William's grandson had married in that county, so now I am including WC in my search. There must be records of your g-grandfather. Do you subscribe to the Wilcox, Lowndes and Butler Counties lists? I put my inquiries out on as many lists as I can find. I think you said your family was from S. Carolina. There is a good S. Carolina list, too. Will send you the addresses if you need them. I don't know the sources of the census and marriage records that other researchers have sent me, but I have received much census and marriage info from others which has helped me. I think there are commercial genealogy programs that have the census records and people find info on them. Also, some use the LDS (Mormon) records. LDS is on-line now, but I have had no luck finding info. It's best to go to one of their libraries and use the microfilm on site. I sometimes think my William and Elizabeth were picked up and taken off into space, but I keep putting out notices. Lots of William Robinsons, but I can't find mind. As you wrote, "may we all find our ancestors..." Let me know if I can be of any help. I haven't seen any Murrays in my searches, but then, I wasn't thinking about them. I research many names, among them are: Robinson/Roberson, Sills, Solomon, Wright, Boles, Regan, Sims, Williamson. Best of luck to you...Freda Freda and Ted Noble tnoble@mcn.org
I'm still hoping for ANY evidence of the existence of John M. GILL in Monroe Co., AL. Am almost positive that this is the John Marshall who was baptized on 13 Sep 1806 in Fishing Creek Presbyterian Church in Chester Co., SC who was presented for baptism by John GILL who is shown "of Rb" in the church records. John M. married Margaret Clemenza WALLACE, dtr. of Jonathan WALLACE and Elizabeth DUNLAP. I don't know if that marriage took place in SC or AL but all of their children born between 1832 and 1848 are shown to be born in Monroe County, AL. They are: Dixon H. L., b 11 Jan 1832; Mary J., b 1837; Elizabeth Clemenza, b 1838; Lemar M., b 23 Feb 1843; John Jonathan, b Aug 1847. This family was in Leake Co., MS by 1850 where their other two children, Necie Amanda 1850 and Matilda Elizabeth 1851 were born. His father probably died before 1830 because there is a John M. GILL listed as head of household on 1830 Monroe Co. census with 2 males age 20-30, 1 female age 40-50 and 1 female age 5-10. The two males could well be John M. and his brother William P. He is also listed on the 1840 Monroe Co. census with wife and 3 children. I really believe he was probably in Monroe Co. much earlier than 1830 but can find NOTHING on this family being there at all other than census records mentioned. If I could find something there, it might help me to trace the John GILL who was his father. Any small piece of the puzzle would be appreciated. Margie
Freda, I went to the Library today in Evergreen, they didn't have the file I thought I had seen there, I guess my mind failes me and on top of that I locked myself out of the Youkon and had to pay to get it opened , I was stranded in the almost 100 degree weather almost 1 1/2 hours.. This was sent to me, and thought it may interest other Stabler researchers. Can anyone add to this? I am looking for the parents of Sarah Elizabeth Stabler, who married Richard Monroe Turberville. Thanks, Deanie Most all accounts indicate that Gottlieb Stabler came from Germany to SC and was married to Anna Barbara Ziegler in Orangeburg, SC in 1757. The story is that their son, John Jacob Stabler, b. May 8, 1772, came to Monroe County and died there in 1844. There is some reason to believe that Samuel (father of Calvin C.) was a nephew of John Jacob. It is said that Malachi Stabler, b. 1817 was son of John Jacob, but I do not know about the James or Jacob who lived nearby in the 1840 census. They may have been sons or nephews. According to Rev. Stabler, the family was in winemaking in Germany. Gottlieb is supposed to have been the son of Christian and Margaret Stabler. I don't know if Gottlieb had any siblings to come over to the SC colony. Gottlieb was born January 20, 1731/32 in Wurttemberg according to my sources.

Ladyd, I really can't imagine why such a small person would even be interested in, or choose to subscribe to a genealogy list. Also can't figure out how he would expect you to research without specifying African American. Hope you know that most people stand with you.
