3. This is a transcription from the Ala. Conf. Service Cards. Being familiar with some of these names, errors in copying the information from the source were noted. I would recommend following up with reviewing the source document(s) for confirming particular records. Yr. Obt. Svt., D. A. Bass-Frazier Description of mf by ADAH: Alabama Confederate Service Cards. Available on self-service microfilm. This series contains information about individual soldiers from Alabama and was compiled from original sources such as muster rolls, pension files, and records at the National Archives. Service cards typically include the name of the soldier, his home county, his age at the date of his enlistment, the date and place of enlistment, and the company and regiment. Cards may also include a list of the engagements the soldier took part in; whether he was killed, captured, or wounded; and date of parole. The source of information is often cited. 2. These people moved to Sabine Parish from Monroe Co. at about the same time as David N. WILKINSON, Dorah MIDDLETON, Lucinda GROOM (widow of Henry BRANTLEY) and John Campbell COOPER. However, I don't see a relationship. 1. [ALMONROE-L] Daniels/Daniel from GA to AL
2. Possum
3. Hello everyone, Thought I would throw my Daniels/Daniel Family back out and see what happens. You never know might just have them hidden your files someplace. The story was somewhere around Atlanta Area. I first pick them up in 1860 Conecuh County, Alabama. If you have any clues or perhaps have seen them please let me know as this is our brick wall and I can't break it down. The 1860 Census reads as follows: Levica Daniels 32 B GA ( Levica could have been a HODO before she married) John 14 B GA Mary 12 B Ga Thomas 10 B GA Martha 7 B GA Susan 5 B GA Rachael 4 B GA Georgiana 1 B GA No father is listed with this family? Who was he? The 1870 Census reads a little different, but same household. Tilda Daniel 60 B GA Mary 22 B GA Thomas 18 B GA Sarah 15 B GA living next door I believe is brother to these above children George 21 B GA Ann 36 B GA Living next door to George is also brother? John 22 B GA Jane 20 B GA Babe 3 B Al John 1 B AL George and John were listed in the 1880 Census for Conecuh County Alabama, but none of the others are. I know that in 1881 This Thomas who was in fact named Thomas Jefferson Daniel/s married Christiana Stabler they lived and died in Monroe County Alabama. Who was Thomas' father? Was Tilda really a Matilda and the grandmother? Was Levica the mother if so where did she go? Where in GA was this family from? If you have seen them, or know them please contact me...Any help with this family will be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks and looking forward to hearing from everyone Debbie

3. Hello. If you had ancestors in Monroe Co., AL in 1850, you will be interested in the news that Deanie Humphrey has transcribed the 1850 federal census and placed it online (with an index). As you may know, this is where there were a great many Creek mixed bloods living at the time -- the Weatherfords, Hollingers, Stiggins, Moniacs, to name a few. Happy Hunting!! Click here: FTP directory /pub/census/al/monroe/1850/ at ftp.rootsweb.com ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/census/al/monroe/1850/ Other transcriptions for this county can ne accessed from the Monroe Co., ALGenWeb site. Sorry do not have that url, but readily available from the USGenWeb Project pages. Carol

1. [ALMONROE-L] PAYNE m. STEWART 8 October 1840 in Monroe County
2. LANCE YOUNG
3. My PAYNE family has certainly been a "pain" to research, and I've relied almost entirely on documents and headstones, with nobody in my family remembering this family at all. So, be warned that I may have erred in assuming some relationships, although I have tried to be thorough. The earliest ancestor I can identify is John D. PAYNE, who was born in May 1825, perhaps in Alabama, but more probably in South Carolina. In the 1885 Florida State Census of Escambia County, Florida, he says his father was born in South Carolina and his mother was born in Florida. >From the documents I've collected, he was in Monroe County, Alabama, in 1840, when he married Polly V. STEWART. After that, the family seems to have crossed and re-crossed the Baldwin County, Alabama and Escambia County, Florida line. The census records show: 1850 Baldwin County, Alabama 1860 Baldwin County, Alabama 1870 Escambia County, Florida 1880 Baldwin County, Alabama 1885 Escambia County, Florida 1900 Baldwin County, Alabama John D. PAYNE had a bunch of kids by Polly STEWART, and after she died he remarried (to Olive R. HARRIS) and had several more. I'm pasting my PAYNE line below and intend to send it to the list. 1. [ALMONROE-L] Dailey's Malitia - Monroe Co.: Muster Roll
2. dabf
3. I have transcribed and posted the Muster Roll of Captain S. H. Dailey's company of 1st Class Malitia from Monroe County. The Muster Roll is dated 16 Sept 1864. Notable on this roster is the age of the soldiers -- many in their 50's or teens, along with the great number which did not have a gun. Many of these are the fathers and younger brothers of soldiers that were already in the Confederate service. The original document is in the Regimental History files of the Ala. Dept. of Archives and History in Montgomery. There is nothing quite so moving as holding the actual muster roll in your hands and recognizing family names. Follow the 36th Alabama link to Dailey's Malitia's Muster Roll. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~oldfedrd/ Your Obedient Servant, D. A. Bass-Frazier

2. Ted and Freda Noble
3. Hi, I am searching for info about the Thorton family who lived in Wilcox and/or Lowndes County in the early 1800's. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Asa B. Thorton, 1788-1843, in 1809, married Nancy Collier, 1792/1860. Their son John A. Thorton, 1815/1871, in 1835, married Sally Sills, 1817-1858. Sally Sills was the daughter of William Clement (Clemmons) Sills and Elizabeth Thorton Sills. I would like to learn more about the Thortons and would particularly like to know if Elizabeth Thorton's family was related to her son-in-law John A. Thorton's family.
