1. [ALMONROE-L] 1860 Census Preview, Part 1
2. Ok, I am sending the first 40 pages of the 1860 Monroe Co. Census, I have been working on. I received quite a few letters asking about name changes, etc when i done the 1850. Please remember, that transcribing this old census is not a easy job, and I transcribed as the census. But,....I am open for suggestions. The Program I use to enter the info, tells all transcribers to spell names, jobs, etc, as the census taker did on the census. Please take that into consideration, thats all I ask. Ok, now....heres part one. ============================================================ CENSUS YR: 1860 TERRITORY: AL COUNTY: Monroe DIVISION: Wainwright REEL NO: M653-18 PAGE NO: 767 REFERENCE: June 7, 1860, F.P.Clingman, Ass't. 1. [ALMONROE-L] Members of 33rd Ala Vol
2. If you have a member of the 33rd Ala Volunteers who were killed in the Cleveland, TN train wreck on Nov. 4, 1862, I would like a short military biography of that soldier. I am attempting to provide a tribute to each soldier listed on the monument at the Fort Hill Cemetery near Cleveland, TN. There were 17 members of this unit who died when the train derailed. Newspaper clippings and a photo of the marker can be seen at the web site. I still need information on 13 soldiers to complete this task. Some of these were from the Daleville area, but I haven't found a mailing list for Coffee County where I believe Daleville was located. Please check the names to see if you have a family member listed on the monument. In Memory of the Seventeen - 33rd Ala Vol Mildred Stinson Brown Gatesville, TX Butler County, Alabama - ALGenWeb Site http://geocities.yahoo.com/BourbonStreet/Canal/8924 Families of Butler County, Alabama http://www.geocities.com/heartland/ranch/5448 Kenneth Brown's Genealogy Page http://www.geocities.com/heartland/estates/7696 Courthouses of Texas http://www.geocities.com/capitolhill/senate/7917 New Web Sites: In Memory of The Seventeen - 33rd Ala Inf: Memorial to the seventeen members of the 33rd Ala Vol who were killed Nov. 4, 1862 in a train wreck near Cleveland, TN. 1. [ALMONROE-L] PEARCE, T. G. and BLACK, Sarah
2. I had a gg-aunt Sarah S. Black who married T.G. Pearce in 1868 in Butler County, AL. T. G. went by the nickname "Cuff." His real name (I have seen only once on a deed--very hard to read) was something like Theroscopheles G. Pearce. Uncle Cuff and Aunt Sallie moved to Texas (don't know when or with whom they traveled). I have not found Cuff's family yet in Butler County, and it's possible they were from Conecuh or Monroe County. I would love to find Cuff's family and find where Cuff and Sally lived in Texas. They died and are buried there as far as I know. Cheryll

3. Does anyone know what happened to "Tracking Your Alabama Roots"? I hadn't needed it in a while and when I clicked my bookmark it went to a "members.aol.com" address and then said they couldn't find the page. The same thing happened when I found it listed as a site link! It was the easiest way to get to the information I wanted, especially for Monroe Co., including census and marriage records. What happened?

3. Looking for anyone with information on the following families from Monroe and Conecuh Counties: GEORGE WASHINGTON PEARCE & MARY HENDERSON Children: Nancy, Mary, John, Martha, William, George, James Jefferson Mary and George Jr. settled in Sabine Parish, Louisiana. Does anyone have any information on the George W. and Mary Henderson Pearce or their other children ANDREW J. MOONEY, SR. & NANCY E. PEARCE married July 04, 1865, Monroe County Children: Adice, Alabama, Thomas, George 1880 census, Nancy is living with her children, Adice, Alabama, Thomas. Her husband Andrew is no longer listed. 20 years later her 19 year old son George is living with his Uncle George Pearce in Sabine Parish, Louisiana. I would assume she was pregnant with her youngest son when the 1880 census was taken. Andrew J. Sr. may have died abt. 1880. Adice and Alabama also settled in Sabine Parish, Louisiana. Does anyone have any information on Thomas and Andrew J. Mooney SR. or Nancy E. Pearce. Looking for gravesites, anything. ANDREW J. MOONEY, JR. & ALMEDA R. GRIFFIN married July 12, 1865. Children: William, Samuel, Martha, Elbert, Rebecca, James, Mary According to the source which I found the children listed, they were all born in Monroe County, however there is no other information for them.

3. Just in case there is someone new on the list: I am searching for my gggrandfather William Roberson who married Elizabeth Bonner. William was born ca 1790. At some time by 1818, I think they had moved to Alabama, perhaps Wilcox County. If not Wilcox, then Monroe County. I have been told they had a son who was called Tye Roberson, born ca 1817. Tye married Polly Sills, daughter of Clement and Elizabeth Thorton Sills. Tye and Polly had one child before Tye died at age 37. Their son Alfred Bennett Roberson, my grandfather, was born in 1838 in Alabama. Alfred Bennett fought in the Civil War. He married twice: Martha Canterberry and Mary Alice Wright. Martha and Alfred Bennett had two sons, Hilary and William. With Mary Alice, Alfred Bennett had ten children who lived to adulthood. Descendents of Martha and Alfred B. lived in Greenville, Al. Those of Mary Alice and Alfred B. lived mostly in Monroe County, the Old Texas, Excel, Repton, and Monroeville communities. I have been unable to make any connection with any of the several William Roberson/Robinsons who lived in Alabama. I have found no reference to a Tye Roberson. People connected to William Roberson are the Sill, Thorton, Canterberry, Ingram and Wright families. I would be grateful for any info that will lead me to find my William Roberson. The census records say he went from South Carolina to Alabama. He probably was in the Abbeville -Longcane areas of South Carolina. Thank you again for reading my efforts to break down my brickwall. 3. Hi...although I don't have any of the names in your letter, I do have Arthur B. Mooney who married Nancy Sills in December, 1848, in Lowndes County, Al. Their daughter Alice Elizabeth Mooney married William Thomas Solomon on 22 October 1848, probably in Old Texas, Alabama, which is in Monroe County. There could be a connection to your Mooneys.
