Hi, Could you check your list to see if you have a "John Ross"? The middle initial may be "W". He would have been from Monroe/Concecuh Co. Thank you!

Hi, I am looking for information about my gr-gr-g-grandfather's parents & siblings. His name was John Ross born in 1827 married to Martha Griffin born in 1828 in Midway, Monroe Co., AL. I believe John was born in Monroe Co., Al, but I am not positive. Martha's parents were John Griffin III of NC & Elizabeth Brooks of GA. John & Martha were born in 1850 according to notes made in the 1850 Monroe CO. Census. John is listed in this census as living near Hugh & Sarah Ross (HN 631). They had a son named John also. He is listed as living in HN 634. John & Martha are listed as living in HN 635. I am not sure if my John is Hugh & Sarah's son. I do not think he is. John and Martha had the following children: --Sarah Isabella Ross born in 1853 in MOnroe Co. married to Pleasant Asa (Or Aza) Guthrie of GA in 1869. --Wesley Ross born in 1856 in Monroe CO. --John Ross born in 1858 (I believe his name is John Wesley) --Daniel Ross born in 1864. He died in 1900 in Skinnerton, COnecuh Co., AL. he married Ada. She was born in 1868. She died in 1943 in Skinnerton, COnecuh CO., Al. They are both buried in the Midway Baptist Church Cemetery. Martha is buried near Daniel & Ada there, also. There is not a grave there marked for John; however, there is two old graves very near to Martha, Daniel & Ada--one is unmarked & one is unreadable. --James W. Ross born in 1864 in MOnroe Co, AL. James & Daniel were twins. James died in 1946. He is buried in Old Town Cemetery north of Evergreen, COnecuh Co., AL. (He is my gr-gr-grandfather.) He married Hettie Grace Salter in 1855. She was born in 1862 & died in 1937. She is bureied in Old Town Cemetery also. Her parents were James William Salter & Mary Jane Grace Salter. If anyone can give me any information about this family, I would appreciate it. I would especially like info about John's parents & siblings. I would also like to find where he is buried. I would also like to know if he served in the Civil war. If anyone can help me with my research, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you
Hello, Roberson Researchers, Did every Roberson family have a William? There were so many Williams. Mine continues to be a very thick brickwall for me. Here is the info that I have. I don't even know if the names, dates and places are correct. I would like so much to hear from anyone who knows ANYTHING ABOUT MY ROBERSON FAMILY. FREDA ROBERSON NOBLE William Roberson born 1790, died in 1870. He married Elizabeth Bonner, born in 1793, died in 1875. They moved from South Carolina to Alabama and probably lived in Lowndes County (or Wilcox County). Descendents lived in Monroe County. A son was called "Ty." "Ty" may have been a nickname for "Tyre." Ty was born in 1816 and died young in 1842. He married Mary Jane (Polly) Sills, daughter of Clement and Elizabeth Thorton Sills. Ty and Polly had one son Alfred Bennett Roberson. A Census record gives Alfred Bennett's birth state as South Carolina and another, Alabama. Polly Sills Roberson married Isaac Ingram and had several more children. No census record shows Isaac and Polly with a son old enough to have been Alfred Bennett. He is not with his Sills grandparents in any census record. Where was he in 1850? Alfred Bennett, born in 1839 and died in 1909. In 1861, he married Martha Elizabeth Canterberry , daughter of Redding Canterberry who lived in Monroe County. Alfred Bennett and Martha Elizabeth had two sons, Hillard McDuffie, born in 1866, and William Vergin, born in 1868. Hillard died young. Alfred Bennett fought, was wounded and was captured in the Civil War. Martha Elizabeth died in 1869, age 23. In 1873, Alfred Bennett Roberson married Mary Alice Wright, daughter of John W. and Eliza Ann Solomon Wright, in Old Texas, Alabama. They had ten children, five daughters and then five sons. My Father was their youngest child, Alfred Leroy Roberson. Afred Bennett and Mary Alice lived in Excel, Alabama. Families closely connected to this family lived in Greenville County, Virginia; Abbeville, S. Carolina, LongCane, South Carolina; Johnston County, North Carolina; and Richmond/Scotland County, North Carolina. They were: Sills, Solomon, Wright, Williamson, Thorton, Bonner, Buffington, Canterberry, and Godbold. North Carolina census records show a Tyra Roberson who could have been William Roberson's father. My great grandfather, Hardy Powell married Missouri Ballard December 31, 1873 in Monroe County. Had five (5) children: William Powell Charles Alfred Powell born 1889 in Monroe County Flora Powell Alice Powell ????? Powell (Female) married a Gonzales and had son Hardy died in an auto accident, I believe in 1922 or so. Missouri lived with daughter Alice and husband Walter Sowell, I believe on the same street as son William and family. I believe Alice and Walter had two sons. Flora married Aubrey Campbell and moved to Houston, TX. Charles Alfred Powell married Lucylle Tate in Mobile and moved to Oklahoma City and then to Houston Texas. The rest of the family stayed in Baldwin County. Anyone with any knowledge of these people please help. Would love to know of some descendents that are still alive.
I am looking for the family of Lawson Monroe Bratcher. I was told he was born in 1849 in Monroe or Conecuh Counties in AL. I believe his Parents may have been Olin and Mary Bratcher from NC. I have tried to look this up on the internet and the census is not complete. Is there anyone out there who could help me find my roots??? Thank you, Tina Romans-Bode
To J. Mathis: Please let me know the location of the Slaughter Cemetery south of Purdue Hill. I have not been researching Slaughters, but have several Slaughter first cousins and am compiling information for them when they become interested. I am researching Embree, Smith, McDonald, Bates, McMillan, Weekley-Jones. My wife is researching Chunn, Lambert, Greer, Hodges. I found what is told me to be a Slaughter Cemetery west of Highway 59 between Tensas and Pine Log Creek this fall, but without any grave markers. Thanks, Jim Smith ALMONROE-L@rootsweb.com wrote: > While searching for another cemetery recently in Monroe Co., we found a > SLAUGHTER family plot located next to County Rd. 1 just south of Perdue > Hill. While searching for another cemetery recently in Monroe Co., we found a SLAUGHTER family plot located next to County Rd. 1 just south of Perdue Hill. It was covered with brush, trees and briars, but the markers were in extremely good condition considering their ages (1800's). If anyone is researching SLAUGHTERS and would like additional info regarding the location of this cemetery, please contact me. J. Mathis
