    3. Very much of what Pat has said, is true. The name of the daughter of a chief was what the tribe went by. It wasn't the name of Chief. Besides that, there was only one chief per tribe, if it be Creek, Cherokee, Crow, Pawnee, whatever. That is the way it is today. There are groups that where everyone there calls themselves chiefs. There are almost 60 tribes in Okla. and almost that much chiefs, one for each tribe there. People use the title chief too loosely. Most full blood native americans never got any credit, it was most always the breeds. Native americans, so vast, so interesting, a lot has been written that was wrong, just like a lot of other things. After the "Trail Of Tears" it was estimated that less than 200 true indians was left in Ala. a few managed to return from the death trip. millard >From: "Pat Opachick" <pensacola@mindspring.com> >Reply-To: ALMONROE-L@rootsweb.com >To: ALMONROE-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [ALMONROE-L] Re: 1910 Indian population Monroe County, AL >Date: Sat, 22 Jan 2000 19:03:09 -0500 > >well contrary to most peoples belief Natives did not need to be full blood >to be on rolls .some of the most remembered Chiefs were not full blood >native..The Dawes roll is full of blood quantums of this nature. >depending on what way you are using the word "princess" ...actually there >were no Indian Princes's.that was white mans word.....some times in some >places used in a very ugly manner. If you are using the word relating to >the >idea she was a chiefs daughter, that still does not mean she was full >blood. >Some tribal pow wow's today have a new Indian princess each year......they >are far from full blood. >"genetically pure Indian"..well there are many, but ...... >No matter how much Native blood they had, you can see buy this census they >were of a tribe, and lived the Native ways. 3. Dear Elizabeth, I am answering your most welcomed letter on the List in hopes someone may see a familiar name, too. As everyone must know by now, I am getting desperate in my search to identify my gggrandfather William Robinson/Roberson. In your second letter, you wrote the Colemans were neighbors of the Roberson/Robinson family in Monroe County. Now, below are the Coleman names that I have in my database. My grandfather Alfred Bennett Roberson, grandson of William Robinson, married first MARTHA ELIZABETH CANTERBERRY. I have been told they were living in Wilcox County at the time. My families seemed to have moved around in Wilcox, Conecuh, Butler and Monroe Counties, so perhaps these Colemans are related. Martha Elizabeth Canterberry's sister Amanda Jane Canterberry married Thomas Livingston Coleman. See info below. Can you connect Thomas Livingston Coleman to your Colemans? I would really like to see the info that you said you have on William B. with Liddy. Do you have his parents' names? Did the "B" stand for Bennett? I was told that my William Robinson had married Elizabeth BONNER, but I am beginning to think the Bonner is a mistake...it could have been MANNING. Thank you so much for writing. I couldn't get back to you last night. 2. Marian: My LITCHFIELDS were born in South Carolina: Metzger (1797), William (1800), Joseph (1804), and Jesse( 1810). I don't know who their parents were, but they all four moved to Alabama. Metzger eventually settled in Baldwin County, AL, and the other three brothers moved on to Texas, I think. Sound familiar? 3. Elizabeth, many thanks for answering my inquiry. Yes, sometimes I am almost embarrassed because I put out so many inquiries, but I guess that is what this is all about. Do you have any info about William B. in addition to his children? What did the "B." stand for? Could it have been "Bennett"? Do you know who his neighbors were? Are any of the names that I research in your database? I don't think your William could have been my gggrandfather because of the dates, but he could be a son. The only son's name I have is "Tye Roberson," as I wrote in my inquiry. I think William and wife Elizabeth Bonner (and that name could be wrong) lived in or near Mt. Willing, Al. Tye married Polly, daughter of Clement and Elizabeth Thorton Sills, and the Sills (I have that info) lived in adjoining Monroe County area. Other related people lived in Wilcox and Butler Counties. There are two marriage records which give a William Robinson's home as the place of marriage. Do you have such records of your family? If you can make any connection, you will have really "made my day!" >Hello, Freda > >For many, many weeks I have read your pleas for help with your William >Roberson/Robinson and wondered if the one I have is any relation. And >this morning when you listed some other people I decided that it was >time for me to take some action. > >I have the William B Robinson (l850 census) wih Siddy/Liddy and the >males that y;ou have with them. > > >==== ALMONROE Mailing List ==== >*****Monroe County Mailing List***** >To Unsubscribe, send the command unsubscribe to >ALMONROE-L-request@rootsweb.com Freda and Ted Noble tnoble@mcn.org

    3. Hello again, Freda, Sorry, but I hit the wrong key and dispatched my letter before completing it.. I do have info on William B. with Liddy (my records all look like Siddy), Menan, Etc. in 1850. Siddy?Liddy was a daughter of Menan Coleman and his wife Argent Jackson Coleman who were neighbors of the Roberson/Robinson family up in Monroe Co. until l834 when the Colemans moved down to Conecuh Co. near Pollard on the Conecuh River. So far as I know, I am not related to the Roberson/Robinson family, but Menan Coleman and Argent are my ggggrandparents and I have sought to complete their familyWilliam B. and Siddy/Liddy also had four older daughters who were not in the 1850 census and with the help of some Emmons bible records I have identified one of them who was named Argent Georgianne. William B. and Siddy were next to Benjamin Coleman, son of Menan Coleman, in the 1850 census of Conecuh Co. Let me know if I may help and I can get back with you probably tonight. Elizabeth Riordan Pensacola
