Mine is the 1966 edition which I believe was the first. Letters to the publisher of the MJ have brought no replies and no responses to a number of requests for the re-printing of all the books. Everyone keeps trying. Hopefully some day the publisher will realize how valuable the books are to family histories. If all goes well...tomorrow is suppose to be a rainy day...I will look for your Crawfords. I also know there are some Crawford names in a publication of the Monroeville Historical Library (not sure of the name of the library). Will dig out the magazine and see what's there, too. Just give me a little more time. My problem is that I can't just sit down and go through the book looking for ONE name; I always get sidetracked and end up finding new goodies. Will get back to you soon. Freda Freda and Ted Noble tnoble@mcn.org
Thomas M. Owen was the great proponent in the Ala. Archives for collecting CW and other history before the participants died. In another reading, it cited that his father was in the 36th Ala. There were several Owen(s) from Monroe Co. in Company G of the 36th. Does anyone have information about the identity of Thomas M. Owen's father? Your Obedient Servant, D. A. Wouldn't you know, I was reading through old e-mails and came across a note that Simpkinsville is about where Old Texas is on current maps. Also, try the USGS mapping service. Your Obedient Servant, D. A. Bass-Frazier

Hello Freda, DABF is correct (once again). The name was changed from Simpkinsville to Old Texas. The USGS maps show them in slightly different locations, probably due to minor changes in where the major road, store, and P. O. were at the time. I think the Bethlehem Church and Cemetery are real closs to where the USGS has Simpkinsville. To see them on a map use the link below. <A HREF="http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html">Click here: USGS Mapping Information: GNIS United States and Territories Data Base Query Form</ A> http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html Grant
I am looking for information and ancestry on Manning Harp (sometimes Harrup) who appears in the 1830, 1840, 1850 census for Monroe County AL. Freda, Thanks for offering to search for CRAWFORD surname in above edition. Take it this is the first one, which means if this info was lost before new one was printed makes it even more valueable.
