    1. [ALMONROE-L] GEORGE WASHINGTON BARNES,b.ca 1815,TN
    2. I am researching a GEORGE WASHINGTON BARNES who, according to census info, was born about 1815 in TN. He may be the George BARNES in Monroe Co. on 1840 Federal census. George was a school teacher and MAY be mentioned in a county history.By 1850 he was in Clarke Co.,MS. He was married to a NANCY WATSON,b. NC about 1810. George MAY have married her in Monroe co. as the first 6 of his children were b. in AL. If a county history exists,I would certainly appreciate a look-see for ole George or if any marriage records exist for the period 1830-40 a check for George and Nancy. Thanks a heap. Chuck

    2. I am seeking to compare notes with other REID/REED/READ researchers in Monroe Co. 1. [ALMONROE-L] Thorton/Manning
    2. Ted and Freda Noble
    3. Hi, I would like to correspond with anyone who is researching these Thorton and Manning families of Monroe County. Asa B. Thorton (1788-1843) married Nancy Collier (1792-1860). Their son John A. Thorton (1815) married Sally Sills (1817). Sally is my paternal gggrandaunt. John A. and Sally Sills Thorton's son John E.(1836-1917) married Elizabeth Manning. John E. and my grandfather Alfred Bennett Roberson fought and were captured together in the War Between the States. Elizabeth Manning (1839-1901) was the daughter of Minerva McFerren (1812-) and William H. Manning (1800-). William H. Manning was the son of Patricia Hardy and William T. Manning. The above mentioned Sally Sills Thorton was the daughter of Clement and Elizabeth Thorton Sills. I am trying to learn what the relationship was between Elizabeth Thorton's family and Asa B. Thorton's family. These people lived in Monroe County/ Butler County/Wilcox County, Al. Any info will be greatly appreciated. 3. Pat, My g-aunt, sister of my maternal g-mother, married Homer C. Dees. She was Ella C. Andress. They married May 13, 1908. She was buried in Grand Bay, AL in 1948. That's about all I currently know, but am wondering if Homer is connected at all to your Dees. They were all from Monroe County. My uncle seems to think that Morris Dees who has become quite well known for his Southern Poverty Law Center in Birmingham is related to us as well. Ring any bells?
