3. Hi, Mary Ann McMurphy, that married David L. Dailey was the daughter of Alexander McMurphy and Sarah Corley. I obtained that information from Mary Ann M. Dailey's death certificate. It also says she was born in Pine Apple, Wilcox county. There are several Corleys buried in one of the Pine APple cemeteries, and I speculate that Sarah Corley's brother was Levi Corley, who owned land next to Alexander McMuphy in Wilcox county, near the Monroe county line. Levi Corley & A. McMurphy obtained land grants on the same day, adjacent, so I am assuming there is some relation. There are also several Corley's & McMurphys buried at Mt. Carmel cemetery in Wilcox county. This is all I can think of off the top of my head without digging into my stuff. Hope this helps. By the way, I am descended from Alex Daniel Dailey, son of David L & Mary Ann. 1. [ALMONROE-L] CRAWFORDs
2. Dear Listers, You're not seeing double. I did send the eMail below to the list just before Easter. Decided to submit once again as everyone might have been busy and didn't get to see it. If there are any CRAWFORDs in the Co, or who subscribe to this list, please let me hear from you. Thanks again for your patience. Winkie CRAWFORD R AL Researchers, Please allow me to share a little more about Monroe Co, AL, CRAWFORDs. My ancestor, g-g-gf Mahalaleel Crawfords descendants are shown below & a brief bio of his family (as known) in SC. Maybe someone will recognize some of his children's names & help me over, under, around, or storming through my brick wall. My contention is that Mahalaleel is the son of Hal CRAWFORD as listed on Ancestral file as s/o John CRAWFORD b 1746, SC and wife Elizabeth ALSTON Crawford, b 177?, SC (probably Marion Dist). My reasoning for this is that Hal b 1780, or 1767 on one record (possibly 2 Hals?) would have been the right age as Mahalaleel was b abt 1802 per 1850 & 1860 FL (Walton Co) FL, census. This is further strengthened by the correspondence rec'd & source material showing his children as listed below. John CRAWFORD b 1746 was s/o James CRAWFORD & Kasiah (Cassia) SAUNDERS as listed in Sellers' History of Marion County, SC, as well as Ancestral file online & other researchers. Would love to hear from anyone who has knowledge or would like to exchange information on these CRAWFORDs. Thank you for your help, Winkie CRAWFORD R WinkieFL@aol.com 1. 3. His name was Newitt Drew. He was the minister at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church. He was murdered on 8-21-1849. According to the an obit written for the Southern Christian Advocate by Ebenezer Hearn he had withdrawn his children from the school. On the 20th he and the teacher exchanged unpleasant words. On the 21st Newitt and others were at the church getting ready for a quarterly meeting. The teacher approached Newitt and hit him with a billet of wood. He died 7 hours later. 2. One of the hero's of Texas independence, William Barret Travis I believe, left from the Monroe/Butler Co. area, supposedly after killing a man. He was a school teacher who either married a young girl in his class or got her pregnant and didn't bother to marry her. He got to Texas in time to take command of the troups at the Alamo. The bad judgement displayed in Alabama continued in Texas. He ellected to stay in the Alamo rather than withdraw. The rest is history. I think the link below will allow you to search the ALBUTLER-L list. There was something on there recently about the family he abandoned in Alabama. Click here: Test for Login http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ALBUTLER-L/ Grant

2. Emma, At one time I put a query in the Pike Co.,Al Newsletter trying to locate the parents of my grandfather, Erasmus Dee Jones. Story handed down by family was that he and his brothers left for Fl on a buckboard after one of them got in a fight and thought he killed a man. This was in 1870. In the 1060 Pike Co., Al. these Jones boys were in the household of George C. Powell. Isaac S. b 1850, Erasmus D. b 1851, and Stephen J b unknown. He got sick on way to Fl and died. We do not know where he was buried. Your years were not the same; but I sure would like to find out who the parents of these boys were. Thanks, Evelyn Jones Chulik curley592@aol.com
