    3. I am sure Mrs. Brooks did try to locate them for you she is always helpful, and I can rest assured they may have still been in order since I did try to reorganize them lately.. Normally they film all the Journals but for some reason some may have been missed or the film cold have been removed. 1. [ALMONROE-L] Alabama Death Records
    2. Julia Emanuel
    3. A reminder that death certificates for Alabama have been microfilmed from 1908. They are available through LDS libraries and probably other libraries. Look up County Code (Monroe County is Code 50) then go to the index of deaths. From that you can order the roll of film that contains the death certificate. As an added bonus, you may find death certificates for others you are researching on the same film. Regards, Julia at jemanuel@prodigy.net

    3. Kay, The story I have is that he was set upon while taking a load of cotton to the gin. The story is that he was murdered either for stealing the cotton or for messing with another man's wife! His death date is 12-20-1898 and he is buried at Jenkins Chapel in N. Monroe Co. along with his first wife Francis Marion Brantley. She died in chilkdbirth in 1894. He had another child almost 1 year to the day after she died 11-20-95 and married that child mother the next day on 11-21. The wife is Lou Ella Ingram and the son is Walter Herbert Andrews. 3. Deborah, if no one on the List can get the obituary for you, I suggest you write to the Monroe Journal, Monroeville, Al. Since you have the death month, the obituary was probably printed during September, 1966. It's worth a try. 3. Hi, I am looking for the parents of my gr-gr-gr-grandfather, John Ross. He was born in AL (according to census records) in 1827. He married Martha Griffin in 1850. He is listed as living next to Hugh & Sarah ROss in the 1850 Monroe CO. Census. They were from SC. I do not think they were his parents--maybe his aunt & uncle. John & Martha's children were all born in Monroe Co.: Sarah Isabella born in 1853. She married Pleasant Aza (Asa) Guthrie Wesley Ross born in 1856 John W. Ross born in 1858 Daniel Ross born in 1864--married Ada Who James W. Ross born in 1864--married Hettie Grace Salter. Martha, Daniel, & Ada are buried in the Midway BC cemetery. John may be buried there, too. There is an unmarked grave near their graves. There is also a marked grave there that is unreadable. Daniel died in Midway. Ada died in Skinnerton. James & Hettie are buried in the Old Town Cemetery north of Evergreen, Conecuh Co. I am trying to find his parents & siblings. I am also interested in info on any other family members. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Janet Ross Etheredge

    2. Ted and Freda Noble
    3. Hi, I know this is a repeat, but hopefully, someone new on the List will have info about these family. I would like to correspond with anyone who is researching these Thorton and Manning families of Monroe County. Asa B. Thorton (1788-1843) married Nancy Collier (1792-1860). Their son John A. Thorton (1815) married Sally Sills (1817). Sally is my paternal gggrandaunt. John A. and Sally Sills Thorton's son John E.(1836-1917) married Elizabeth Manning. John E. and my grandfather Alfred Bennett Roberson fought and were captured together in the War Between the States. Elizabeth Manning (1839-1901) was the daughter of Minerva McFerren (1812-) and William H. Manning (1800-). William H. Manning was the son of Patricia Hardy and William T. Manning. The above mentioned Sally Sills Thorton was the daughter of Clement and Elizabeth Thorton Sills. I am trying to learn what the relationship was between Elizabeth Thorton's family and Asa B. Thorton's family. These people lived in Monroe County/ Butler County/Wilcox County, Al. Any info will be greatly appreciated.
