Kathryn, Thank you for the site. I am looking forward to my visit to Burnt Corn. Evelyn
The closest place of any size is Monroeville, AL. Burnt Corn is about 12 miles north and east of Monroeville. I visited there this spring, all the way from Maine. I plan to be in the Burnt Corn area next week to visit where my gggrandfather walked. I would like to know if anyone has a rooming house in the area that could offer room and board for a couple of days at a reasonable rate. If not board, maybe just a room. If this is not available maybe some one could advise me where the closest motels are located. I will appreciate any information one may be able to offer. My husband will be with me. My gr-gr-gr-grandfather was John Ross--either Hugh John or John Hugh. He married Martha Griffin in 1850. He was born in either 1823 or 1827. John & Martha's children were all born in Monroe Co. They were: Sarah Isabella Rossborn in 1853--she married Asa (Aza) Pleasant Guthrie in 1869 Wesley Ross born in 1856 John W. Ross born in 1858 Daniel Ross born in 1864. He married Ada Who. She was born in 1868. She died in 1943 in Skinnerton, Conecuh Co., AL in 1900. They are both buried in the Midway Baptist Church Cemetery. John may be buried there also, but if so, the grave is either unmarked or unreadable. James Ross born in 1864. He married Hettie Grace Salter. James & Daniel were twins. James & Hettie are my gr-gr-grandparents. They are buried in the Old Town Cemetery north of Evergreen, Conecuh Co., AL. I am trying to find out all I can about John. For several months now, I have been trying to find out who his parents are. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To everyone that responding to my email about the location of Dennard's Bluff in AL--- A VERY BIG THANK YOU!!! Janet Ross Etheredge
Good morning, Although we had this discussion a while back, I'll state my thoughts for those who may have joined this list afterward. A bunch of us had "people" who lived in the Old Texas area, but they are shown in the various censuses with a Post Office Burnt Corn, Old Texas, OR Dennards Bluff. It is my humble opinion thar these people as a group were not moving around, but that these were the mailing addresses for the enumeration district, not where they lived. I believe that the Beat # stayed the same. Mary Alice in CA
Can anyone tell where Dennards Bluff was--or is? This this community still exist? If so, what county is it in? Thanks! Janet Ross Etheredg
