All Alabama vital records are available from the state office and through a statewide computer system that became fully operational in all 67 counties in June 1996. Within the state, authorized applicants can walk into any county health department and get any Alabama vital record, regardless of where the event occurred, while they wait, usually within 15 to 30 minutes. Since county offices are not prepared to handle mail, customers outside Alabama should not write or call any county health department office. Instead, all calls and mail should be directed to the state office. I verified this information on the phone with someone at the Mobile County Health Dept just before sending this email.
