Can anyone help me out on this? I am trying to find out where I can obtain a copy of the obituary for Michael McKinsey listed in the Mobile Genealogical Society's publication of "Death Notices 1820 - 1829" as follows: 1822/02/10 McKinsey, Michael Contr. by Lois Dumas Mitchell 1822/02/11 M'Kenzie, Michael Mobile Commercial Register Pg 3 Col 4 I believe his widow was Mary Emeline (Emelite?) who married second, Christopher Yates Fonda. Michael is believed to be the father of my g-g-grandmother Caroline McKinsey Wood. He was a Notary of Public and was in trouble with the authorities concerning his handling of guardianship trusts when he suddenly died. Needless to say, I am quite curious about the particulars of his demise! Caroline had at least one sister, Adella who married Hezekiah Gates. Another possible sister would be Adeline who married Thomas Pierce. Caroline married George Wood who was in the wholesale grocery business in Mobile. He sent his family to live with relatives in NY, sailing around the Horn to SF in 1850 where he began his business ventures anew in Chico CA. The family joined him in CA about 1860. Family tradition says that Caroline spoke fluent French, so I am guessing that her mother was French as her father was Irish and served with Gen. Anthony Wayne.
