Thanks Addice in Fairfax, VA for the reply to my previous post. I believe that the B. A. Whitaker family is a different line from mine, and probably no relation. According to the 1860 census, Martha was living in the household of Dr. William H. Whitaker. She married his son, Oscar Cramer Whitaker in April, 1860. Oscar went off to fight in the 12 Alabama infantry, so I presume Martha still lived with her father-in-law. The Mobile city directory indicates that the doctor's residence was actually in Toulminville about that time, though his office was still on Government St. in Mobile. Sometime later, he apparently moved his residence to Whistler, where he died in June, 1870. Maybe Martha is buried near either Toulminville or Whistler. I suspect the former is more likely, but that is strictly a guess. Dave
