Pat Creel [email protected] ----------------------------- OBIT- June 19,1906 Escatawpa, June 19,1906 Editor: DEMOCRAT-STAR If you will grant me the space, I would like to speak through your paper of the death of Mrs. John W. Jones, which occurred June 10th. Mrs.Jones had for a number of years resided in this place, and was liked by all who knew her. She was a devoted wife and a kind and loving mother, and known by all as a Christian neighbor. Mrs. Jones had been suffering from quite a while with carcinosis and for a number of weeks before her death her suffering was intense, but she bore up with Christian patience and courage. She was conscious until the last breath left her body, norwithstanding the anaesthetics used in such cases to deaden pain. Mrs. Jones' maiden name was Elezabeth Ann Kennedy, and being left an orphan when she was quite young, she fell into the hands of Mr. and Mrs. Ward, who helped to inculcate those sturdy qualities into her young life, that have been characteristic of her as known to us. She was married to John W. Jones, May 6th, 1866, and at her death was 64 years and 41 days old. In 1860 she joined the church and at her death she was a member of the Baptist Church of Escatawpa. The burial took place near Wade, Miss,. in the family burial ground (Johnson Cemetery), Rev. R. V. Barr and rector officiating. Dust to its narrow house beneath; Soul to its place on high; They that have been seen thy face in death, No more may fear to die. M.F.
