Richard was born c1833 in Ireland. He arrived in Mobile from Belfast. There are two Richard Maxwells in the Mobile citizenship documents. One, from Ireland, filed declaration of intent to become citizen 21 Mar 1859, age 22, having been in the US for four years. The other Richard, also from Ireland, became a citizen 10 Jul 1867, no age given, having been in US for five years. No Richard Maxwell is listed on the 1860 Mobile census, though his brother George is shown at that time. George Maxwell arrived c1852-3 and became a citizen in October 1860. Here's what I have on Richard... Richard Maxwell, born c1833 Ireland, died 23 Mar 1871 Mobile. Buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Mobile, AL. Married Cochran Strachan 15 Dec 1865 Mobile, AL. She was born c1847 Alabama, the d/o George Strachan and Martha Walton. They had two children that I know of... 1. Martha Jane Maxwell, born 1867 Mobile, AL. Baptized 14 Aug 1867 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Mobile. 2. Stuart Alexander Maxwell, born 1869 Mobile, AL. Baptized 26 Dec 1869 at St. John's. I have that Cochran married Charles McConnell April 1874 in Mobile with children 1. Charles E. McConnell (ca Feb 1876) 2. Francis H. McConnell (male, ca May 1877), marr Charlotte Sossaman Oct 1898 Mobile, AL. 3. Isaac D McConnell, ca Aug 1879, marr Mary S. Bowline Feb 1910 Mobile [I guess this is where you come in?] 4. Rhett Lee McConnell born ca Sep 1881, marr Ella Ledora Williamson Apr 1910. 5-8. Children born and died before 1900. I show a Charles and Ellen McConnell on the 1870 census as follows: 1870 Mobile County, AL pg 208, family 1064/1266 McConnell, Chas. 29, ships carpenter, Maine -, Ellen, 30, Ala. -, Drusilla, 2, Ala (and others apparently not related) Mobile Probate Court record of Charles E. McConnell marriage to Ellen Parrot September 1860...I would think that this was his first marriage, with children being Drusilla (ca Jun 1870) and Geneva McConnell (ca Dec 1872). If the birthdate of Geneva is correct (December 1872), then she likely isn't Richard's child as he died in March 1871. He did have a marker in Magnolia but the last time I was there, about three years ago, it was gone. It gives/gave his death date and age as 38 at death. What do you know of Nora Maxwell as Richard's child? I had not heard of her, but do see a death certificate is on file for a Nora Maxwell died 10 Jul 1886, white, certificate #554. I don't know the names of the rest of Cochran's children by McConnell, but there are several listed in the Mobile County death index: McConnell, Eugene, died 5 May 1890, white, certificate # not given McConnell, Chas., 3 May 1890, white, #298 McConnell, Chas E., 8 Apr 1896, W, #274 McConnell, Eliza E., 10 Dec 1905, W, 1350 McConnell, Francis H., 24 Oct 1898, W, 885 McConnell, Hattie C., 19 Jan 1884, W, 59 McConnell, M.L., 23 Jun 1886, W, 506 McConnell, Robt Jr., 2 May 1905, W 1350 If you can add to any of what I have, I'd appreciate the input. I have not been able to trace Richard back in Ireland, but do think he was from the Belfast area and (baptizing children in an Episcopal Church) was most likely Protestant. Do you have any pictures of Cochran/Richard or their children? I look forward to hearing from you, hope this helps! I'll send a duplicate of this to your email address. Scott
