The <A HREF="http://www.interoz.com/baycounty/dive/tarpon.htm">S.S. Tarpon</A> steamship that sank on September 1, 1937 in the waters near the coast of Panama City, Florida. The S.S. Tarpon's Captain and 13 other souls were lost as the ship sank to the sea floor in 97 feet of water and Addley Baker swam 20 miles in 25 hours to report the tragedy. Addley Baker had lived at 264 South Jackson St., Mobile, Alabama and was employed by the Pensacola Gulfsteam Ship Co. since April 1936. Many of the seamen were from the Mobile area.
