I have placed the images from the 1830 Census of Mobile City online at my RootsWeb Freepages website, "Clark's Deep South Genealogy" (not the most original name, but hey, it works!): http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~auburnfan37 All of the images are online - keep in mind, however, that Mobile City and County were kept seperate, and soon I will put the images from Mobile County online. I will post another message at that time also. The images are straight off of the AllCensus CD (and of course, placed with permission). If anyone would like to transcribe or index the census data (if it has not already been done), you are certainly welcome to. The images are in .gif format and it should be suitable for all browsers. If you have any questions, problems, or comments, please email me at auburnfan37@charter.net. Thanks and enjoy! Clark Solomon, 16 Tuscaloosa, AL

Hello, I am researching the FOSTER family who had property located at St. Louis Street near Conception, in Mobile AL in 1938. My ancestor, Mary Sophia "Molly" Moore Foster (b.1858) was married to Judge/Colonel Thomas R. Foster (born ca.1850) and they lived in Vicksburg MS. Thomas' mother may have been Elmira Foster. I have a will-type document that lists contents from the above property. I also have a photo-postcard showing a house which says "Spring Hill house of T.R. Foster" which looks like a plantation home. Thomas R. Foster was known as Judge Foster on one record. He is usually listed as T.R. Foster and was sometimes called Colonel Foster. I don't know when T.R. Foster lived in/near Mobile. T.R. Foster and Molly Moore Foster lived in Vicksburg. Molly died in 1915 and the will-type document of T.R. Foster was signed by him in 1938 and witnessed in 1939. T.R. Foster's great-grandmother (b.1760) was Nancy Foster. I'm curious to know if/when the Fosters lived in/near Mobile, and if the home at St. Louis/Conception St. and Spring Hill still exist. The photo of the house in Spring Hill shows a woman in white, walking along the grove leading up to the house, in what looks like turn-of-the-century dress, and the photo shows a dog near her. T.R. and Molly Foster had at least two children who died (one may be Hillary) and their third child who lived was Mary Corinne Foster who lived in Vicksburg and eventually moved to Norfolk, VA where she married Ramon Mills. I have some photos from the Foster family I would like to identify. This Foster family may have connections to a Meacham family, of SC. I would like to connect with others who may be researching this family. Thanks, Peggy Dyas http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VicksburgMississippiResearchers

Surnames: Kirsch/Kersh Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/TS.2ADE/962.1 Message Board Post: Stephen, This may not be of much help, but wanted to let you know that several spellings of the name have been found: Kersh, Kirsch, Kearse, Kierse, Kirsh. Kirsch was the spelling of our name in Germany. The census takers evidently spelled it the way it sounded. With the German accent, they may have been misunderstood in some instances, too. I am a descendant of Hans George Kirsch (Kersh) of Zuzenhausen, Germany, who immigrated to America in 1744, along with his wife and children on two separate ships, landing in Charleston, S.C. Some moved on and settled in Virginia and many, in Orangeburg District, S. C. In 1828, a portion of the family traveled from S.C. by covered wagon to Rankin CO, Miss. I do not have a lot of information on those in Alabama, but do know that some Kershes married in Miss. and then went to other nearby states. You might want to try the marriage records. Good Luck in your search. If I can help, I will certainly try. Kathryn Kersh Nicholson
