I have a cousin that died this week, Victor "Buster" McLeod. He is the son of Leroy & Annie Lee Parker McLeod, (both deceased) all from Mobile Co. I assume the obit will be in the Mobile Register. Can someone please post that for me, and others who might be interested? Thanks, Gaylynn Y. Cooper

Does anyone have any information on the people who were involved in the Phenix City *Sin City USA Area*? Does anyone know where the people involved are buried? Like, Red West, John Paterson, Godwin,Davis, Head Revell, Cook and even Ma Beeche among other involved in that area that you might have memories to share. Does anyone know where they are buried or have any stories about them? I am trying to gather information together on families of today and their ancestors who were involved in * Sin City USA* What was it like to have your ancestors involved and have memories of a part of History. I would love to hear your story. I am gathering information for a link on a web site and the memories of their ancestors and how they played a part in our History. Our ancestors left us with many interesting stories that have never been printed. Like my gr grandpapa who was married four times and divorced twice, was a Minister, Physician and State Rep. of Washington County, Alabama. All this is documented and there is more , he left all his wives after the second child. My daughter and I are interested in the men who lived the lives of the stories we have read about them. We would like to know who they were ,we would like to put flesh on the skeleton bones. Thanking you in advance to those who share your stories. May we use your name with your stories? Surnames: Wadford-Watford-Hubbard-Hammock-Gafford Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/TS.2ADE/1841 Message Board Post: I am researching my g-grandfather, William Henry Whadford. He was supposedly born September 15, 1862(?) in Alabama(?) approximately during the Civil War years (different years on different censuses) and the tale told is that his family may have originally come from the Carolinas and/or Georgia to perhaps Newton, Dale County, Alabama, where he may have been born. He was orphaned at a young age when his family may have died in a "plague" possibly on a river(house)boat and the story has it he was discovered alone after a couple of days. He may have ended up at an orphanage or facility and at some point he was claimed and sent to live with a supposed “uncle.” This may have been in Florida. He questioned whether his claimer was a true uncle because he felt used as an indentured servant and this prompted him to run away with alleged “cousins.” He eventually migrated to Texas and the family is able to trace him from his first marriage to Mary E. Have! ns on October 25, 1885 in Rains County, Texas where he had worked building Sulpher Springs Road. I found an Alabama census listing a Willie Wadford approximately the same age as my g-grandfather may/would have been. I included this information as the Hubbard last name may be some type of clue or tie you may recognize. It is the 1870 census of Shelby County, Hillsboro, P.O., Alabama, page 423. I cannot clearly make out Ms. Wadford's first name. The listing is: Hubbard, James D., age 24, M, W, Farmer b. Alabama. Mollie (nickname?), age 20, F, W, Keeping house, b. Alabama. Walter R. or B., age 1, M, W, At Home, b. Alabama. Wadford, ? (Annie, (N)Annie, Ammie short for Amelia?), age 25, F, W, At Home, b. Alabama. Wadford, Willie, age 4, M, W, At Home, b. Alabama. My thoughts are perhaps Ms. Wadford may have been a sister (some type of relative) to James D. or Mollie Hubbard, but she could have been only a boarder. I cannot locate any information on the Hubbards as well. There is also an 1880 census of Butler County, Oaky Streak, Alabama, page 496, listing a William Wadferd. The listing is: Hammock, George, age 49, M, W, Farmer, b. Alabama, cannot write. Sarah, age 49, F, W, Wife, Keeps house, b. Alabama. Elizabeth, age 18, F, W, Daughter, b. Alabama. Wadferd, William, age 24, M, W, Single, Laborer, b. Alabama, cannot write. It appears 1880 William Wadferd is a boarder. As probably flawed as censuses were back then and despite the name spelling and age, this could be my g-grandfather and/or possibly Shelby County Willie Wadford. I also cannot locate any information on the Hammocks either. If you have any information or search suggestions, please contact me at NLCOMPTON@RMCI.NET

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TS.2ADE/1837.1 Message Board Post: Sandra, I believe there may be more than 1 Sarah Elizabeth Turner and you might be confusing them. The Sarah Elizabeth Turner that is the daughter of Noel Turner, Jr. and Mary Harrell is listed as age 13 in the 1850 census. In the 1860 census she is listed as 23, but the census taker puts her on the wrong line. She is listed as being in the household of her brother, Charles Leslie Turner (the policeman). Her siblings Mary Ellen and Oliver are also listed in the wrong household. According to Noel Jr's family bible, Sarah Elizabeth was married to Lewis Monroe Pierce on 13 Feb 1868. A marriage license was issued, but it was never returned. I do not have a record of any other marriages for her. She died in Mobile Co. on 21 Dec 1915 and is buried in the Palestine Missionary Baptist Church cemetery. I will be glad to help you sort this out if you can give me more information. Howard
