I don't think this is the same William. My Childresses would have been near Jackson County, MS by the year 1920. I would appreciate learning more about where your Childresses were in SC and where they lived in GA, as I have been trying to gather records in those states. As for the James you mentioned born in AL, do you know which part of the state? My ancestors were pretty much located on the coastal area. My William Childress married a Mary Caroline WARD.

Surnames: Bryan, Waller, Smith, Langhan, Langham Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TS.2ADE/1845.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Caren, I spent some time on your Bryans today...Here's the obit, Mrs Margaret Elizabeth Bryan Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Bryan, 80, a native of Camden, Ala, a resident of Mobile for a number of years died at 4:15 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the residence of her daughter, Mrs F.C. Waller, 1153 Springhill Ave. Deceased was the widow of William Bryan and is survived by two sons, M.J. Bryan of Lake Charles, LA, J.L. Bryan of Calvert, Ala; two daughters, Mrs. W.T. Smith of Lamberton, Miss., and Mrs. F.C. Waller of Mobile; thirteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren; one brother, Charles Langhan of Bay City, Texas and other relatives. The end. I was thrown off by the fact that her husband was named William and not Joseph, so I looked at the Roche Funeral records book and it states that she was the widow of William as well. Have you seen a copy of her records with Roche? I then went to the Mobile City directories. I looked for a Joseph prior to 1880 and there wasn't one, but there were some William Bryans listed. Then after the 1880 directory it lists Maggie A ((((sometimes a "B." and then eventually an "E" as middle initial))). It lists her as the widow of Joseph several times up until her death year and I think it had her listed as the widow of William in one of those years. Maybe he was William Joseph Bryan? Anyway, I searched numerous records for his death and it didn't seem to be listed in Mobile anywhere. I checked the death certificates for 1876-1908 and he was not listed under William or Joseph or any abbreviation that would fit. I also checked Brian and Bryant surnames. He just wasn't there. I also looked at an index for Mobile prior to 1876 and no luck there. Maybe he died in Wilcox? Then she moved to Mobile? Let me know if you want me to send you the info that Roche has, I made a copy of the page and brought it home as well as the! obit. Marla
