The phone number is (334) 208-7093. The Mobile Genealogical SOCIETY also has a library. The phone number is (334) 432-MGS-4 (6474). -- Regards, Kevin Sellew in Mobile, Alabama *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* President of the Mobile (Alabama) Genealogical Society -- a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization and WebMaster for the Mobile Genealogical Society Web Site On the Web: http://www.siteone.com/clubs/mgs/ *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

    1. [ALMOBILE-L] Martha WHITAKER - Mobile Co.
    2. xxx
    3. Thanks Addice in Fairfax, VA for the reply to my previous post. I believe that the B. A. Whitaker family is a different line from mine, and probably no relation. According to the 1860 census, Martha was living in the household of Dr. William H. Whitaker. She married his son, Oscar Cramer Whitaker in April, 1860. Oscar went off to fight in the 12 Alabama infantry, so I presume Martha still lived with her father-in-law. The Mobile city directory indicates that the doctor's residence was actually in Toulminville about that time, though his office was still on Government St. in Mobile. Sometime later, he apparently moved his residence to Whistler, where he died in June, 1870. Maybe Martha is buried near either Toulminville or Whistler. I suspect the former is more likely, but that is strictly a guess. Dave

    2. Magnolia Cemetery was not the only cemetery around during that time. You may want to give them a call, because the Magnolia Cemetery book is not complete. I have many family members buried there going back 150 years that are not listed in the book. Their number is 334-432-8672 or you can write Friends of Magnolia Cemetery, 1202 Virginia St., Mobile, AL 36604. Another cemetery you may want to check out is Pine Crest Cemetery. Half of Mobile County is buried there. Their number is 334-478-5227 and their address is 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, AL 36615. The other half of Mobile County is buried at Mobile Memorial Gardens. Their number is 334-661-1333 and thier address is 5956 Three Notch Rd., Tillmans Corner, AL 36619. Both of these cemeteries have old graves also. You can also call the Mobile Genealogical Library at 334-434-7093. They have the published death records. Kelly Mobile, AL

    3. Dave, If Martha Stringfellow Whitaker died in the city of Mobile in 1861-1868 she would almost certainly have been buried at Magnolia Cemetery. The only Whitaker(s) listed in the Magnolia Cemetery book however are as follows: Lot of United Confererate Veterans, Raphael Semmes Camp No. 11, Army - Navy Whitaker, B. A. [no dates are listed for any of these veterans] p. 279 Alice Havard Whitaker Daughter of Benjamin A. & Mary Whitaker Died June 17, 1852 Age 1 yr 17 days p. 306 Of course, if Martha died in Mobile County there are many possibilities since there were numerous small churchyard type cemeteries dotted around. Hope this helps. 3. Hi List Members, I hope everybody has had a wonderful holiday, and is ready to charge into the new year with renewed energy to overcome those brick walls we all have in researching our ancestors. Does anyone on the list have access to the Mobile Co. death records? I believe these were published by the Mobile Gen. Society. Our nearest Mormon library only has the volume up to 1859. I am looking for Martha Whitaker, nee Stringfellow. She may have died in Mobile after November, 1861 and before September, 1868. I would very much appreciate a lookup. I would also like to know if there were any young Whitakers that died during that period. Thanks, Dave

    1. [ALMOBILE-L] (ALMOBILE-L) MCVOYS FROM MOBILE. {DIEGO MCVOY & DESCENDENTS)
    2. ALMOBILE-L: Seeking info on MCVOY family from MOBILE/PENSACOLA/NEW ORLEANS AND MISSISSIPPI FROM 1700 to present. MCVOYS FROM ALL SOUTHEASTERN STATES. My great grandpa was Martin McVoy from West Florida Territory, but he was not the one who was the son of DIEGO MCVOY#1. He may have been the child of WILLIAM MCVOY from Escambia county Florida. There were apparently TRIPLETS IN THIS MCVOY FAMILY!!! MARTIN MCVOY'S children were born in MD where he fought in the Civil War. He had son, Martin Nathaniel McVoy#2,daughters: EULALIA, JOSEPHINE, & ADA MCVOY HUTCHINS of Calvert County MD. IMPORTANT QUESTION: ON THE MAGNOLIA CEMETARY BURIALS, THERE IS A LIST OF 3 PEOPLE IN ONE "MCVOY" FAMILY WHO DIED ON "SEPTEMBER 2, 1935. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS MOBILE FAMILY ON SEPT.2,L935. WAS IT A WRECK, FIRE,?????????????/ PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE HAS INFO. I AM MOST CURIOUS WHAT HAPPENED TO THESE PEOPLE. IT MUST HAVE BEEN SOMETHING HORRIBLE FOR A MAN AND HIS TWO CHILDREN TO ALL DIE ON THE SAME DAY. The dad was Vincen Paul MCVOY,Jr. 2-10-1900 to 9-2-1935. The daughter was Mabel Elizabeth MCVOY, 6-7-1929 to 9-2-1935 The son was Vincen Paul MCVOY III,12-23-1930 to 9=2=1935. I WOULD ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO HEAR FROM ANYONE WITH "MCVOY" FAMILY HISTORY FROM THE SOUTHEASTERN USA, ESPECIALLY THE STATES BORDERING THE GULF COAST. HAPPIEST HOLIDAYS!!!!! 2. Jim Moore
    3. Looking for information on the Boner Branch Cemetery I have been looking for the location of the Boner Branch Cemetery for the past several weeks. Some of my HARTLEY ancestors are said to have been buried there. I found the following reference in a Historical Homecoming Bulletin for Satsuma United Methodist Church dated 1969 on page 74. "Many of the Hartley's are buried in the cemetery known as Boner Branch and is now close to the Frisco Railroad tracks and completely covered with trees and vines. It was at one time a very large and well kept cemetery, and there were graves dated back to the 1700's." Newsclippings state they were buried near Cleveland Station, which is now the Satsuma and Saraland, AL area. Can anyone provide me with any information on the Alexander Hartley family during the years between 1815 and 1902 and the whereabouts of the Boner Branch Cemetery? Thank you. Jim Moore P.O.
