    3. While I am not related to any of the families you reference below, I am somewhat interested in the Chastang family in so far as my ancestors bought many parcels of land during the early to mid-19th century from the Chastang land grant in Whistler and Chickasabogue area. I'm curious to learn more about how the Chastangs came to sell off their land at that time if you know anything. > Subject: [ALMOBILE-L] RE: Early French Settlers in Mobile Area > Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII > Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit > > I'm interested in exchanging data with fellow researchers of > such families as > Fievre, Dubroca, Andry, Chastang, Juzan, Nicholas, and Alexandre. > These are > families from whom I am either directly descended or am related > to as cousins. > Ron Shawhan

    1. [ALMOBILE-L] JEAN FRANCOIS MACAVEY
    2. JEAN FRANCOIS MACAVEY: DOES anyone on the list have knowledge of JEAN FRANCOIS MACAVEY who is listed on FTM as emigrating to BATON ROUGE,LA in 1720? THE source that is cited is: "THE FIRST FAMILIES OF LOUISIANA, BATON ROUGE,LA," by CONRAD, GLEN R., published by CLAITOR'S Publishing Division, 1970, vol.1. Does anyone on the list have access to this book? The source page is #132. Thanks! BONNIE MCVOY TREON [email protected]

    1. [ALMOBILE-L] MCVOY and MACABOY
    2. HI LIST! Does anyone have any info on whatever happened to JOHN MACABOY (MCVOY) who was the father of DIEGO, and GUILLERMO MCVOY? c.late 1700's--does anyone know the truth of where he came from and also, where he is buried? Does anyone know whatever happened to GUILLERMO and DIEGO'S older brother JUAQUIN MAKBOY,who was born circa 1775? Was he the same person known as JOSEPH MCVOY who lived in LEXINGTON DIST SC in latest 1700s and married MARY KILLIAM? He apparently later lived in MS and his widow passed away in FRANKLIN PARISH,LA. Their mom Isabella, remarried a man named MARTIN de MADRID in PENSACOLA-- does anyone know what happened to her and also, where is she buried? Also, it was said that they had a sister named ANN MAKBOY--does anyone know who she married? GUILLERMO MACABOY (MAKBOY), became known as WILLIAM MCVOY,SR. and married MARGARET BYRNE,b.1783 in PENSACOLA. I am descended from this line. DIEGO MCVOY was a commissioner of MOBILE,AL in 1815 and married into the BOUSAGE FAMILY. DOES anyone really know if JOHN MAKBOY/MACABOY/MCVOY was perhaps the person listed in FTM as JEAN FRANCOIS MACAVEY who came to BATON ROUGE in 1720? I was always told that JOHN MAKBOY was orig. JOHN MCAVOY and came to SAVANNAH or CHARLESTON from IRELAND, yet I can find absolutely no record of this. That is why I am wondering if he may have been JEAN FRANCOIS MACAVEY? Also, his wife was named YSABELLA(spelled several ways)MELOS (or MELSA?) INDESA MAKBOY (MCVOY/MACABOY/MCAVOY/MCABOY) de MADRID. SHE is said to have been SPANISH in some sources and other sources say ENGLISH and have her name as MELOS. The MCVOY family records/BIBLE etc. apparently have her listed as ISABELLA MELSA INDESA MCVOY, wife of JOHN MCVOY of IRELAND. DOES anyone have any additional information on these families? THANK YOU. 2. Richard Barrett
    3. The Delchamps family has been in the Mobile area since early 1800's. They owned most of the land on Mon Luis Island, founded the town of Delchamps, AL, and founded the Delchamps Grocery Store chain. The patriarch, Joseph A. Delchamps emigrated to Savannah, GA with his wife, Jeanne Marie F. Durand, in the early 1800's. Their son John Julius Delchamps was born on 21 Sep, 1821, in Savannah, GA and married Sarah Elizabeth Bancroft on 21 Nov. 1844 in Mobile. I need help with the French ancestry of Joseph Delchamps and his wife, as well as Sarah Bancroft. Tx, Richard Barrett

    1. [ALMOBILE-L] MARTIN MCVOY,b.1825,d.4-22-1841-NEED INFO!
    2. QUERY: MARTIN MCVOY,b.1825,d.4-22-1841 at age 17,buried at OLD CHURCH ST.GRAVELYARD in MOBILE. MARTIN,b.11-15-1825 was the son of WILLIAM MCVOY,SR.,(also known as GUILLERMO MACABOY,b.circa 1776 and died 1835)& his wf.MARGARET BYRNE MCVOY,(daugh of GERALD BYRNE and ANN PALMER ALLMAN BYRNE.) MARTIN MCVOY,b.1825 was the BROTHER of WILLIAM MCVOY,JR.,b.1812 (who was married to JOSEPHINE HERNANDEZ in PENSACOLA and resided there.) WHY DID MARTIN DIE SO YOUNG? He was only 17!!! I NEED TO KNOW "if" he was MARRIED before he died, and if so, WHO was his wife, and WHERE was she from? This is why: MY great grandfather was named CAPT.MARTIN N.MCVOY,b.5-14-1841 in PENSACOLA. I was told that he was raised in the home of WILLIAM MCVOY,JR. and his wife JOSEPHINE HERNANDEZ and that he was assumed to have been THEIR "son" which has been written in several different sources including the family records of MCVOY cousins in CALVERT CO MD. Apparently, from what I just learned today-- PERHAPS he was NOT really WILLIAM MCVOY,JR and wife,JOSEPHINE HERNANDEZ'S son, but INSTEAD,he was possibly their nephew who was orphaned.??????? IF SO, WHO WAS HIS REAL MOM? It appears that records from CAPT.MARTIN MCVOY'S(b.1841) wife ELIZA JANE COCHRANE MCVOY'S family in CALVERT CO MD "suggest" that MARTIN,b.1841's DAD was not WILLIAM MCVOY,JR, but instead, MARTIN MCVOY wo was WILLIAM,JR'S brother!!! THIS MYSTERY IS GETTING DEEPER! ***DOES ANYONE KNOW THE CAUSE OF MARTIN'S DEATH?(The MARTIN MCVOY who died in April 1841.) MARTIN MCVOY,b.1825--died on APRIL 22,1841--ONLY BUT DAYS BEFORE MY GREAT GRANDPA, CAPT.MARTIN N.MCVOY was born (MAY 14,1841)!!! I had just "assumed" that my great grandpa,MARTIN was named in honor of his "uncles" who were: (I thought-)MARTIN,b.1825 and also MARTIN MCVOY,b.1814-d.1869 (who was the son of his GREAT UNCLE, DIEGO MCVOY,SR.) DOES anyone on this list have access to any records that could tell me EXACTLY who MARTIN,b.1841's birth parents were? I would really appreciate any help!!! This MYSTERY gets deeper! My great grandpa,MARTIN,b.1841, apparently left FLORIDA sometime prior to 1861 and moved to CALVERT CO MD where he fought in the UNION ARMY cavalry 1861-1865 in MARYLAND. THE ENTIRE REST OF THE MCVOY FAMILY FOUGHT FOR THE CONFEDERACY! WHY would MARTIN MCVOY,b.1841, have fought for the UNION ?? If I find out the TRUTH about WHO was MARTIN,b.1825's wife (if he had one)-and her origins, perhaps that will help me solve my family mystery. I never even knew that my great grandpa was from PENSACOLA/MOBILE areas of what used to be SPANISH WEST FLORIDA until I found a MCVOY family will from PENSACOLA circa turn of the century and I asked my grandmother MCVOY-- who told me that my grandpa (another MARTIN MCVOY,b.18887)'s dad MARTIN,b.1841 was indeed from PENSACOLA. I don't have a clue which info is correct-WILLIAM,JR and JOSEPHINE MCVOY... or MARTIN MCVOY,d.1841 and????????? wf? I'm quite confused by all this conflicting info. PLEASE CONTACT: BONNIE MCVOY TREON [email protected] -if anyone has records of MARTIN MCVOY,b.1825's death in 1841, or MARTIN MCVOY who was born in 1841's birth. ***also--I am looking for a book entitled "OUR FAMILY FACTS AND FANCIES" about the MORENO FAMILY and was authored by REGINA MANDRELL in the 1980's. Does anyone have a used copy? thanks.

    3. Hi! I come from Coden and I do have some information about the people you list. I have a copy of the Odd Fellows Cemetery book listing and locating all of the people buried there. Among them are Crenshaws, Ladniers, Smee's and Golemon's. If you are interested I can give you copies of pertinent pages. Perhaps you could help with information on Rabby's and Hale's. I have my Rabby line traced back to 1725 with Pierre Raby and my Hale line only back to John Wesley Hale, married--for the second time--to Jimmy Dozier (Granny Jim). 3. I plan to travel to Mobile late in the year to do research on my grandfather's people locally and would love to hook up with any distant cousins I might still have living in the area, but with whom my family has lost touch. Local family or family by marriage include: Myers Thomas Baumhauer Ramsay Kelly Dodds Our family was from the Whistler-Eight Mile area north of Mobile and our pre-Civil War land covered that area plus the land around Chickasabogue (today a county park, I'm told). I'm also interested in any information anyone might have on how I might go about getting our Myers Family Cemetery restored. It is curently within the precincts of the county park at Chickasabogue, but I've been told (am not sure if true) that legal rights to a family cemetery can never be sold. If so, I'd try to have it listed on the State Historic Register of Historical Places to see if I could further protect it or get financing somewhere for its restoration. It's in pretty bad disrepair and dates from 1849.

To Jenkins and all of you interested in the Vine and Olive Colony in Demopolis: Do any of you have anything on John Washington Jenkins born S.C. 23 Jan 1812 but later of Madison Co. Al. then of Green County and Marengo Co. and perhaps Perry Co. Al. then in Texas in 1860. He or his wife or mother may have been associated with the Vine and Olive Colony at Demopolis. He married (1) Cyrene Grantham 26 Jan 1836 then (2) Nancy Elizabeth Barrett 5 Dec 1861 He and his large family were in Anderson, Grimes Co. Texas in 1860 when they were visted by Ella Rosa Carlin nee Jenkins, aged 20yrs., and Edward Jenkins aged 14 yr., both born La., who were accompanied by Emily Anderson aged 9 who was born in S.C.- Ella and Edward may have been visiting their uncle. Do any of you know of this family and perhaps the names of Ella and Edward's parents? They may have been connected to "Judge" Jenkins in Shreveport La. and/ or the Jenkins in Terrebonne Parish La. or they may have been originaly from from Orangeburg Co. S.C. or Charleston S.C. Ella Rosa Carlin always claimed to be a cousin in some degree of the Empress Eugene consort to Napoleon III of France. Eugenie's families names were de Montijo and Portocarrero and Guzman and her Spanish and French relations may well have been associated with the Bonapartist colonists in Demopolis I am also interested in the marriage of Maxilda Guillotte to Joseph E.
