Someone from that area recently went to the cemetery for me. She said the cemetery was in bad shape and was unable to search all of it because of a lot of overgrowth of brush. She also said what she did search did not have an infants grave with my brothers name on it. I do appreciate your offer but for now I think I have hit a "brick wall" May God Bless!! Thanks again.......Linda

Those record books have been searched by someone from that area for me and I am sorry to say they found nothing. I was told that some of the records were destroyed in a fire way back and as others have not found what they were looking for I will assume that to be the case, especially 1954 & 1955 . Thank you for the information.
I checked the Higgins books......Charles N. Shaw was not listed. According to the Alabama Death Record Index......there was a Charles Shaw who died in Mobile on April 29, 1922 (certificate #7400). Do not know if this is the one you are looking for. A Lorena Shaw died in Mobile May 9, 1950 (certificate #10238). She is buried in New Hope Gardens and Roche Mortuary handled the arrangements. If you should find in your research that this Charles Shaw was buried in New Hope Gardens (old Wheelerville Cemetery) in an unmarked grave........please let me know. I am working on verifying "unmarked" graves in this cemetery. Eugenia Parker

Shaw in it. He died sometime in the 1930's and is buried at New Hope Gardens off Old Shell Road but his grave was never marked and is not on the cemetery record. I am pretty sure Higgins was the undertaker. His wife was Lorena Lane Shaw and she lived till 1950. I need a death date so I can try to get a death certificate for him. Thank you very much for any help you can provide. I know the book is in the Mobile Library but there is no way I can get to Mobile again. Thank you again

Can anyone tell me if they know of a Catholic home for boys in the Pensacola Fla. area around the turn of the 20th century? My ggrandfather Joseph Patrick Ovens/Overns/Sheppard and his brother Marion were supposedly sent to a home for boys that may or may not have been a Catholic place. The story is that either their legal name was Ovens/Overns and that the Sheppard family took them in from the school, or that their mother or grandmother married a Sheppard after her husband(Ovens/Overns) left or died. They may have had at least three sisters, Mabel, Lillian, and Virgie(which may be short for Virgina and who may have moved to St. Louis). My great grandparents marriage license had Overns but it is insisted that it was actually Ovens. We are at a dead end. Would be very grateful for any help or info. Thanks in advance!
