For my MCVOY family, (I think his name was James BREADEY??) was a witness at the wedding of GERALD BYRNE'S (BYRNS, BYRN),SR's daughter, MARGARET BYRNS (as spelled on wedding cerificate- but later known as BYRNE) and WILLIAM MCAVOY,SR (as spelled--later known as MCVOY) in Mobile on Feb.14,1799 according to the Catholic records. Gerald BYRNS (as spelled) was my ancestor and his daughter Margaret BYRNE/BYRNS was my 3rd great grandmother. She and my 3rd ggrandpa William MCVOY/MCAVOY are buried at Old Church St.Cemetery in Mobile. But on William's brother, DIEGO MCVOY/MCAVOY's grandchildren's baptism certificates between 1800 and 1816 (I only have 2 of them) BREADEY is also there as a witness.. He must have been close to these families. Also, EARLE is DEFINITELY connected to my BYRNE family. I am seeking any available info about this MR.BREADEY. These folks were all obviously Irish. Wish I could find more info. Thanks. Bonnie Treon in NC [email protected] (PS- we have a [email protected] E-mail list if anyone is interested.)

Also, a small area between Whistler and Prichard was once called Turnerville. Until the '40s, there was a Turnerville Cemetery (sometimes called Rawls Cemetery) on Dunlap Circle just off Turner Road. The graves that could not be moved to another location were destroyed in the '40s. Only one grave now exists beneath a large oak tree at the back of a large vacant lot on Dunlap Circle. If ancestors who lived in the Whistler area were buried at Turnerville before the '40s, it is likely they were buried in the cemetery on Dunlap Circle, not in the Turnerville Cemetery10 miles north of Saraland.

Neither her brother Pushmataha or sister Hotema are shown as children of Shumaka and Roscoe Cole in your reply to Robin Evans. I've never heard of Alma Mason so would be really interested in her sources for the names of Shumaka and Roscoe Cole's children plus Shumaka's remarrying. Oklahoma succeeded his uncle, Pushmataha, as chief of Okla Hannali district, but according to one website, didn't last long because of 'dissipation'. A second nephew, Topenahomma, was then selected. There was a Robert Cole who served as chief of the Okla Falaya district from 1824-1826. A Coleman Cole was principal chief from 1874-1878. 'Look forward to hearing from you.
