Surnames: FRAZIER, SUTHERLAND Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TS.2ADE/1139 Message Board Post: John Carl Frazier, Jr. Family and friends mourned the passing of lieutenant Colonel John Carl Frazier, Jr. (USAF ret.) on Friday, March 16, 2001, at the age of 82. Mr. Frazier was born on Dec. 11, 1918 in Mobile, Alabama, and lived in El Macero since 1970. He died at David Grant Medical Center, Travis Air Force Base after a short illness. First and foremost, Mr. Frazier was a military man. He joined the Army Air Corp (sic) at an early age and became a bomber pilot in the USAF Strategic Air Command, serving in World War II, the Korean War and the Viet Nam Conflict. After service at many duty stations including Texas, Oklahoma, England and the Pacific, Mr. Frazier was stationed at Travis Air Base, Military Air Transport Division, from where he retired in 1966. Many area residents knew Mr. Frazier as the owner of Markley Cove Resort from 1964 to 1987. He loved hearing and telling fish tales. His stories entertained fishermen coming and going. He was even known to occasionally catch a "big one" himself. Mr. Frazier loved to drive through the countryside of California. He was captivated by the beauty of Lake Berryessa and the business opportunities offered. For years he opened the store at 6 a.m. and visited with whoever had the time or inclination to talk with him. Mr. Frazier is survived by his wife, Elna; daughter, Leigh Sutherland; son and daughter-in-law, John and Linda Frazier; grandchildren Chad and Betsy Frazier, and Quincey Sutherland, all of Winters. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 23, at 2 p.m. at Smith's Colonial Chapel in Winters. A celebration of his life will follow. (Obituary from the "Winters Express," Thursday, March 22, 2001, (Yolo County). Submitted with the permission of the "Winters Express," 312 Railroad Ave., Winters, CA 95694. Please note: I am not related to the family listed above, and I do not have any further information on this family.)

Services are no longer conducted in German, but many members are of German origin. The church has the old German Evangelicial Church records written in German, and a microfilmed copy of the same records can now be found in the geneaology section of the Mobile Public Library. My g-g-grandparents were members of the church after they came to Mobile from Germany in 1856. With help from the pastor who reads German, I was able to find baptism and burial records that I could never have found on my own. [email protected]
