    1. [ALMARSHA] Hillian's Store
    2. Got this from Although Hillians Store was referred to in one of the census reports as Gillians Store, others indicate it to be Hillian's Store. According to the 27 July 1867 Postmaster of Hillians Store, Samuel B. Kirby, Hillians Store was located in the NE quarter of Sec 20 in township 6 south, range 5. It was located 1 mile from the Tennessee River (before the lake was formed) and 1 1/2 miles from South Sauta Creek on its south side. It was 3 1/2 miles NE to the Langston PO and 6 miles SW to the Meltonsville PO. According to Post Office Records, the store was established on 14 March 1839 and discontinued for the last time in 1906. Two of the postmasters were Absolom Hillian who had the quarter section just north of the quarter Hillian's Post Office was located in and his son Jesse Hillian. According to Marshall County court records, the store was started by George Elliott (brother to Absolom Hillian's wife, Mahala or Hily)who was to provide the stock and Francis M. Kirby and Jesse Hillian were to provide the building. They had a falling out and George went to court for a remedy. I do not have a map which shows Town Creek but the county map put out by the Highway Department indicates County Road 582 does not go through the NE Quarter of Section 20. Kirbytown is shown almost in the middle of the NE quarter however at about the present location of Haygood Church See Message at: http://genforum.genealogy.com/al/marshall/messages/874.html
