    3. Have any of you received spam from a place called DiscoveryFamily.com? I know I read about it on one of the lists I belong to, and now can't remember which one. I have received at least two advertisements from this place. I am told they charge a membership fee for accessing research sites, most of which are free to us anyway, and they provide the link. New researchers would not be aware of this. I wanted to pass the word along, and if anyone is interested, or if you want more information on reporting them posted to the list please let me know. I received that information this afternoon. Their letter to me was entitled something like "Thank you for your continued support...." Its a pity that people like that are out there taking advantage of others. So, the more complaints submitted the better. 3. Linda and Everyone, I usually don't allow post like this on the list, but since this is a real problem and not a hoax, and because it involves RootsWeb and the data we post to the various lists, boards, GenWebs, etc., I feel it is necessary to pass this information along. I posted a message to this list a few days ago regarding this same thing. The best thing you can do with messages you get from familydiscovery.com is delete it with the rest of the junk e-mail you get and inform other researchers of this scam. RootsWeb is aware of this, and they have already been reported to the appropriate agencies for fraud. I also want to make it clear that nobody has to pay anything to access lists, GenConnect boards, databases, and webpages at RootsWeb. If you receive an offer saying that for a fee you will get access to stuff at RootsWeb, please contact me or someone at RootsWeb immediately. RootsWeb simply won't stand for companies who try to profit from our hard work while taking advantage of innocent people. At this time I request any further comments on the familydiscovery.com scam be directed to me privately. I apologize for getting off topic, but under the circumstances, I felt it necessary to discuss this. Thank you for your patience. Sincerely, Kim Ivey kivey@companet.net Listowner
