    3. Here is some information on my McDOWELL family who I located in the 1850 census for Marshall County. I am not sure of Jane's surnames, and think it possible she had relatives in the area...so I have listed the surname of COLLINS, and we were told she may have been married to a ROBINSON prior to marrying William McDOWELL. William McDOWELL, b. ca. 1797 SC, d. ca. 1855 Wayne Co., MO, married 25 September 1837 in Montgomery Co., AL to Jane COLLINS, b. 8 June 1813 TN (East), d. 7 Dec. 1887 Ripley Co., MO. Jane remarried after William's death to James Elgin McKINNEY. William McDOWELL as listed as a carpenter, and I believe they belonged to the Missionary Baptist Church. Their children: 1. George W., b. 17 Aug. 1838 TN, d. 28 July 1910 Ripley Co., MO, m. ca. 1858 MO to Lucy JOHNSON. 2. Joseph, b. ca. 1840 TN, d. poss. after 1875, m. before 1860 to Penelope Elizabeth THOMPSON, b. 16 Dec. 1841 Benton Co., TN, d. 1920 Corning, Clay Co., AR. (These are my gg grandparents.) 3. Hannah, b. 1846-47 poss. Marshall Co., AL 4. Letta (Lettice), b. ca. 1849 poss. Marshall Co., AL 5. Ganum (Ganam), b. ca. 1852 poss. Marshall Co., AL, m. Sarah J. ??? In checking census records for 1850 St. Genevieve Co., Missouri I found the family of James McDOWELL, b. ca. 1814 TN, wife Clarissa, b. ca. 1829, and children: Robert b. 1836 AL, Susan b. 1838 AL, Richard b. 1842 AL, Mary b. 1844 MO, Ellen b. 1848 MO, Martha L. b. 1849 MO. Also the family of William WOMAC & wife Hanna seems to have moved to Missouri at the same time...and I wondered if they might be related. Wayne Co., MO, which is where my McDowell family moved too, is close to St. Genevieve Co.
