William H. "Bill" BALLEW was married to Annie C. B. POWELL on 1 July 1879 in Guntersville, AL. Bill was shot and killed shortly before son James Custer Ballew/Bellew was born. This occurred in 1880 around Guntersville, Alabama. A white man was hung for the killing, but later a Negro man, on his deathbed, said that wrong man had been hung - that he had killed "Bill" Ballew. Does anyone have information on this Bill Ballew family? I would love to have more info on the "killing" - do Marshall County records/newspapers go back this far?
