My grandmother, Flora Lee McClendon, was born in Pell City, or Springville, St. Clair County, in 1908. Her parents were William Boyd and Mattie McClendon- first cousins. Wm. Boyd was born in 1882 and Mattie was born in 1892. Boyd's parents were Jasper Joseph McClendon and Laura Jane TUCKER, who married in 1858. On Jasper and Laura's marriage license, Jasper signed his last name "McCLELLAN" for some reason. (I do know they are Boyd's parents because Mattie, their daughter-in-law told me so.) Laura Jane Tucker was born in Marshall County. Mattie's parents were Joel Dennis McClendon and Paulina Elizabeth FORTNER, Dennis being born in 1847 in "Alabama" and Elizabeth being born in 1857 in Alabama. Jasper Joseph and Joel Dennis shared the same parents- Dennis senior and Senia McClendon/McLendon. My McClendons apparently moved from GA to the St. Clair and Marshall county areas in the early to mid 1800s.
