Surnames: Grammar, Armstrong Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SS.2ADE/13.1 Message Board Post: Dear Elaine, I know this family well. Newell C. Grammar and his wife, Martha Armstrong Grammar, being unable to have children of their own, adopted my Great Grandmother, Mary Belle McClendon Grammar. Martha Armstrong Grammar, Newell's wife, was also the sister of an Elizabeth Ann Armstrong, who was my GGG Grandmother. So besides being my adopted GG Grandmother, Martha is also my GGGG Aunt. My family has long been searching for information regarding Belle's birth family with no success, but we have a great deal of information on the Grammar and Armstrong families. William L. Grammar's father was John Grammar Sr., born circa 1770 in Virginia and died Aug 10, 1840, in Morgan County, Alabama. He married Elizabeth Abernathy on March 29, 1792 in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. Elizabeth Abernathy Grammar was born about 1774 in Virginia and died May 1, 1852 in Lawrence County, Missouri. Besides William, they also had children: Martha C., John Jr., Pleasant, Peterson, Mary Burrow, Eliza, Martha Coleman, Leonard, James Madison, Monroe Washington and Coleman. I have information on the descendants of John Jr., Peterson and Leonard. Sarah's full name was Sarah Ann Rankin. I'm afraid I don't know anything else about her at this time. Jennifer
