His parents died of typhoid fever when he was eight years old and he was raised in Sand Mountain, Alabama by an Uncle Dave (White?) who owned a big plantation, forest, and sawmill. They would sell the lumber to a company in Rome, Georgia. 'Uncle Dave' had one daughter and four sons, three of which were killed in France. Jourdan moved to Atlanta around 1900, married 1) Maud Mooney from Flowery Branch, GA, 2) Emma White, had a grocery store in the Grant Park area of Atlanta.
