This was originally Jackson County but later Marshall. Sarah sold this land to Maria(h) Virginia King January 25, 1837. July 5, 1837 Mariah V. King - Grantee - Jesse Cheek. Book A, Page 94 Marshall County, AL original land records, Marshall County Court House, Guntersville, AL. Did not find marriage record for Mariah Virginia King to Jesse Cheek but think they were married. May have married in Jackson or Madison county. Early Jackson county marriage records destroyed. Have not checked early Madison county. Do you know? Cheek Indian Reservation was flooded in 1939 when Tennessee Valley Authority brought electricity to North Alabama. Hope this was some help although earlier than your inquiry of 1880s. It was a Cherokee Reservation and was just NW of the Gunter Reservation and SE of the Thompson Reservation. Also, I am searching for any information concerning my great grandparents, Robert E (Dock) WILKINS and Fannie FLOYD WILKINS. Primarily their time was spent in GA where both were born, all of their children were born in Chattooga Co, GA except for one, Earnie WILKINS born 12-15-1887 on the Cheek Reservation in Marshall Co, AL. I do not know where they were after they left the reservation, but I do know that the entire family was in Bossier Parish, LA in 1910, per the Federal Census for that year. In 1910, Robert E Wilkins was 60 years old. Robert E (Dock) WILKINS parents were alleged to have walked the Trail of Tears, but I am not able to find out their names thus far, so anyone with help or suggestions of where to look will be appreciated. My search has been a long and difficult one, so I don't expect it to get any easier!! But, 3 years ago when I started all I know was my own grandfather's name and nothing else, so progress is being made!!! Thanks for any information, websites, or suggestions!
