Listmembers, Just wanted to remind everyone that we still have a few days left on our Sharing Week. I invite everyone to post your queries. Who knows, you just might find that missing branch in the family tree! Here are the rules again: 1) Names must be in the subject line. Please don't use "sharing", "my surnames", or other useless phrases. The subject line is the first thing people see, and if the names are in the subject line you might get more responses. 2) Only 3 surnames per message, but you can post as many messages as you like (well...don't send 1,000!). Ok....that's it. Everybody have fun and happy hunting! Sincerely, Kim Ivey kivey@companet.net Listowner

I am eager to find more info on these 3 families. I am descended from Boyd and Mattie McClendon (first cousins) - Boyd being the son of Laura Jane Tucker and Joseph Jasper McClendon (AKA McClelland), and Mattie being the daughter of Dennis and Elizabeth McClendon. A Nancy Fortner, age 42 in 1870, was living with Dennis and Elizabeth, so i wonder if perhaps she was Elizabeth's mother. Any info you can offer would be so greatly appreciated! I am willing to share any and all info i have on these families as well. Good luck in your research, Donna in MT

I am looking for the parents of Tim Burks and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Lewis. Elizabeth was born abt. 1868 in Marshall Co., AL. Tim and Elizabeth married 23 Jul 1891 in Marshall Co. A note attached to the marriage records gives permission for Elizabeth to marry Tim and is signed by "Mattie Lewis". Someone told me Elizabeth's father was Henry Lewis, son of Robert Lewis and Sarah Cagle of Lewis Mountain, but so far I cannot find any marriage, census, etc. records to substantiate this. Elizabeth died between 1910 and 1914 and is buried in an unmarked grave in Old Union Cemetery in Grant. Tim and Lizzie lived in the Grant/Hebron area. Their children were: Henry, Earl Edward, Molly C., Robert J., Frank, Wheeler Joe, Carlton and Bill. Tim was born in Cleveland, OH and migrated to Marshall Co. before 1891. Census records state his father was born in Germany but I have no name. After Lizzie's death he married Etta Mae Morrison and they had several children: James Gordon, Hazel Pauline, Laura Catherine, William George, and Wilburn Douglas. Any help would be appreciated. M. Here is some information on my McDOWELL family who I located in the 1850 census for Marshall County. I am not sure of Jane's surnames, and think it possible she had relatives in the area...so I have listed the surname of COLLINS, and we were told she may have been married to a ROBINSON prior to marrying William McDOWELL. I'm looking for the family of Rhoda NICHOLS SMITH, b. 1841 in Marshall Co. She married P.A. (Pleasant Ayler) Smith 22 July 1866 in Marshall Co. P.A. was born in Cherokee Co. 22 Jan. 1842. I know they lived in Pisgah, Jackson Co. in early 1900s but am not sure where they were between their marriage in Marshall 1866 and 1900. Rhoda's parents were Charles Nichols born in Marshall Co. and Lottie (Charlotte) TUCKER born in TN. Her siblings were Nancy, Polly, Adeline, Clayborn, Maudia, Robert, Phil and Simeon. Her grandfather is believed to be Simeon Nichols and her grandmother is believed to be a COOPER, but we're not sure of the first name. Rhoda was rumored to be a full blooded Cherokee Indian although her Miller application was denied due to lack of evidence. The children of Rhoda and P.A. were Jack (Andrew Jackson), Bettie, Henry, Huse, and George SMITH. P.A. served as a Pvt. in 48th AL. Infantry Co. D and was captured in Gettysburg. Have not been able to find P.A. SMITH'S parents, Lottie TUCKER'S family, or the COOPER connection. Would appreciate any info.
The Hughes family that settled in Marshall county, came from Laurens, SC along with the Garretts and possibly the Culvers. The Timmons family is the one I have never posted, because I am not sure if they came from SC to AL. There seems to be a connection there according to a letter that a list member shared with me. I know that George Washington Hughes married Jemima Timmons and lived in Newberry, SC. in the late 1700's. My question: How was this George Hughes related, if at all, to George Hughes who had a son named William H. Hughes? William settled in Marshall county. Thanks, Jan
I am researching the heirs of Levi Monroe Hinds and Huldah Byram, both of whom lived in Madison County but had many heirs who moved to Marshall County. Current project is to find where Rebecca Noble Hinds is buried. She lived in the Warrenton district in 1860 but was not listed in the 1870 census. She grew up in Red Hill, Marshall, AL. I think that she may have died in child birth. Any information would be appreciated. Barbara Finney
