    1. [ALMARSHA] Andrew T. Smith aka John, Jesse, & Randy
    2. Hi Listers, This is my first time posting to this list. So if I do something wrong, let me apologize in advance. This is what I have so far. Some of the Smith children are supposedly born in Marshall Co., AL. On the 1880 census for Jackson Co., AL they were in the Woodville area. I decend from Thomas Layafette Bulman b June 15, 1839 Madison Co. AL and Serena Elizabeth Pence b 1838 Madison Co., AL daughter Rachel Elizabeth Bulman b abt 1860 AL. Rachel Elizabeth Bulman b 2 June 1860 Jackson Co., AL was married to Andrew T. Smith b 1853 AL on April 13, 1875 in Jackson Co., AL bondsman Andrew T. Smith and GG Lilley. Children of Andrew T. Smith and Rachel E. Bulman are Rosey b 1875 AL James Franklin b Sept 12, 1877 AL (my gGrandfather) Edwin T b 1878 AL David Edward b 1880 AL Annie b 1882 AL Darwin W. b 1884/6 AL Canada Erwin b July 24 1886 John Henry b 1889 AL ( may have been born in Marshall Co. ) Willie A. b 1892 AL James Franklin Smith's death certificate list father as John, Cannada Smith's death certificate list Jesse, and John Henry's list Randy. Now it could have been three seperate father's but don't think so. By March 3 1897 Andrew T. Smith was deceased and Rachel married Enoch Elias Futch on March 3, 1897 in Honey Grove, Fannin Co., TX. She was on the 1900 Fannin Co., TX with some of the Smith children. Rachel and Enoch children are Joseph T. Futch TX Pearl Futch TX Grace Futch TX That I know of. I am looking for siblings of Rachel. Does anyone know who or if she had any? I also need help looking the parents and siblings of Andrew T. Smith. Any and all corrections or additions to the Smith and Futch children would be appreciated. Pat

    3. John, Yes those are my people. Mary Ann Strange is my gg-grandmother, William Thomas Strange is my g-grandfather and John Robert Strange is my grandfather. All of these people lived, died and are buried near Martling, Marshall County, Alabama. Since you did not say, this has to be the 1880 census in Marshall County. Do you have any more data you can share on these people? Are you related to the Strange name? Since I descended from William Thomas Strange, I have detailed data on all of his descendants. All I have for John McPherson and Willie is that they had 3 children: Martha; Vioria; Jesse. Thanks very much John. Charles Stephenson San Antonio, Texas

    1. [ALMARSHA] marriage and census question
    2. marta
    3. Frances Beard married William Hart in Marshall County Alabama. She had been previously married and in 1870 had a child William Beard age 8 shown with her on the census. By 1880 William Hart is shown with three young children who are appearently the children of he and Frances. What happened to Frances and young William? Did they die during those ten years? What was Frances's maiden name before her first marriage? Was it Jacobs, and was Johnnie Jacobs in the 1880 census her niece, or was she the child of one of the siblings of William? There are several HART-JACOBS marriages in that county. Any help appreciated with this mystery. Thank you in advance. marta HART, William H. 1. [ALMARSHA] POORHOUSE Information
    2. Poor House Lady
    3. We would like to invite you to re-visit our website, The POORHOUSE STORY (a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses) at http://www.poorhousestory.com We just posted some information about the poorhouse in MARSHALL County. If anyone has any further information, we would appreciate your submissions. DIRECTIONS: At the homepage (link above) click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then on ALABAMA on the table of states. If you will scroll down to the section on LOCAL NOTES, you will see the entry (with a yellow NEW arrow). (NOTE: If you have visited the site recently, you may have to click on REFRESH on your browser to see the new information.) There are other pages on the site which may give you some interesting perspective on poorhouses. They are off the homepage and include: the HISTORY page and the LETTER TO GENEALOGISTS as well as FEATURED ARTICLES. There are great tips for researching poorhouse records for yourself on the RECORDS page; and you might want to subscribe to our (almost) monthly newletter (which you can do in the lower right corner of the homepage). The information on our site will only grow through the submissions of generous readers. If you would like to e-mail me ... please do so off-list because I cannot maintain subscriptions to as many lists as we post messages on. (You can use an e-mail link off one of our web pages.) We hope you enjoy the site! Thanks, Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)

Surnames: Grammar, McClendon Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SS.2ADE/13.1.2.1 Message Board Post: John! Thank you so much for looking. Actually my great grandmother, Mary Belle, is located in Tennessee in the 1880 census: 1880 US Federal Census, Tennessee, Giles County, District 16, page 317 C. N.C. Grammar, Head, M, W, M, 36, AL, TN, TN, Farmer. Martha Grammar, Wife, F, W, M, 34, AL, TN, TN, Keeping House. Bell Grammar, Daughter, F, W, S, 5, TN, ---, TN The only incorrect thing I see here is that Martha's father was actually born in Georgia not Tennessee. According to family lore, Newell and Martha were on their way from Marshall County, Alabama, to live in Tennessee when they came across a man who had several children. Newell and Martha expressed interest in a little red-headed girl who was about 3 years old and the little girl's father said that Newell and Martha should take her since her mother had died anyway. Granny Belle always said her birthday was Jan 1, 1875, but I believe this is just an estimation. It would have been around 1878 when Newell and Martha took her in. Granny Belle also always claimed to have been born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and that that was where her real parents were from. There were a couple McClendon families in Marshall County, Alabama, but I think the McClendons that we are looking for would have been in Tennessee.
