Does anyone know what this means? I heard Mary was American Indian, possibly Cherokee but I am not sure.

Greetings! I have a question about your question about "spades" pointing upward carved on a tombstone. Do you mean "spades" as in a card deck or do you mean "spades" as in shovels? If you mean "spades" as in a card deck, could the carving possibly be upside down "hearts"? My understanding of both is that "spades" as in shovels indicates agricultural lifestyle and is usually seen crossed with a scythe, but not upside down. And, my understanding is that an upside down "heart" indicates immortality or broken mortality.
