Classification: Biography Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RS.2ADE/1224 Message Board Post: Attention Lamar County Researchers, Attention Marion County Researchers I have been working to transcribe the earliest Lamar County newspapers and help make them accessible to everyone without having to sit in a library or over a roll of microfilm. I have completely finished transcribing THE VERNON PIONEER and am currently working on THE VERNON CLIPPER. There are lots of references to Marion County and Pikeville in the papers. Some issues of THE PIONEER contain the Marion County Directory and one paper has an article by the Marion County Teachers Society of the 1870's I have submitted everything that I have transcribed to the Lamar County websites that I know of. Hopefully, they will be posted soon. However, they are available NOW at www.newspaperabstracts.com under Alabama - Lamar County. If anyone wishes to have a hard copy of the papers in book form they will still be available. A complete set of THE PIONEER has been donated to the Vernon Library (Lamar County) and Winfield Library (Marion County). They are being processed and will be available soon. THE PIONEER is divided into 3 books - one for the years 1875-6 ($20) , one for 1877 ($40) , and one for 1878 ($40). If anyone wants all 3, the cost is $85 for the set. ( If you have already ordered the complete set at full price, please expect a refund check from me next week). After I get a full year of the CLIPPER done, it will also be available in book form. (No price set for it yet, as I am not sure how much it will cost to get it printed). If anyone wants a photocopy of the actual articles of the paper, they are available for 50 cents per page + postage. I hope everyone enjoys reading these papers as much as I have. Keep watching the websites as I am continuing to transcribe and post them as I get them done. A fellow researcher Veneta McKinney
