The following is what I have in my book, "First Alabama Cavalry, USA-Homage To Patriotism about some of the Nichols you are researching. Other Nichols who are listed as serving in the 1st AL Cav., US, are: Alfred, Arthur S., Benjamin B., David L., Edward, General Morgan, Isaac J., Jacob L., James F., Joab S., Larry L., and Stephen Nichols. I would be happy to send what information I have on these other Nichols if anyone is interested but you need to make your request today or early Monday AM. I could just send everything I have on all of the Nichols if there is a need for it. It was graciously given to me several years ago by other researchers. Nichols, Jasper, Pvt., Co. B, age 22, EN 1/5/63, Glendale, MS, MI 1/22/63, Corinth, MS, born Marion Co., AL, POW 10/26/63 from Vincent's Crossroads, MS, died 6/14/65 at Jeffersonville, IN. NOTE: Jasper was the son of Jushua L. and Elizabeth Cochran Nichols. His brother, James F. Nichols also served in this regiment. The following was found among his military papers: Paducah, Kentucky - April 18, 1865 This certifies that I have carefully examined J.N. Nichols, Private, Company B, First Regiment, Alabama Cavalry, who is now here on furlough from the U.S. General Hospital, Maryland, (Said furlough to expire the 23 inst), and find him unable to travel to said hospital on account of emaciation and general debility, contracted while incarcerated in a rebel prison at Florence, South Carolina. I furthermore decalre my belief that he will not be able to report in person in a less period of time than thirty (30) days from present date. J.M.
