He was on the 1850 and 1860 census in Marion Co. He enlisted as a pvt. with the Alabama Infantry, 3rd battallian, "sons of 76", and was dead by 1863 as his wife filed a deceased claim on him by 3/7/1863. He had the following children; Thomas W.(W.T.), b. 1852, George W., b. 1858, Margaret M., b. 1859, and John D., b. 1862. Joseph also had a brother named John G. Harper who lived in Lowndes Co., Ms. at this same time period and also died in the war leaving behind 5 children and a wife named Margaret. They were born in NC. I am trying to see if there is a connection between them and one of the Harper's that was located there in Marion Co. at that period in time since they lived in that area and came from the TN/NC area. All of the children for Joseph were born in Alabama, so he was there I feel before the 1850 census which I first locate him on. Any info on this family will be appreciated.
