Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.marion/2288.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I wanted to answer your question but I need to do more research on it. I will tell you this, after it was closed, the kids did go there to play ball etc. then some vandals broke out all the windows and generally trashed the place. The floors were ruined for playing ball with all the rain. After that A couple of individuals bought the building and replaced the windows, fixed the plumbing and electrical wireing and ran a Faux Marble plant out of it for a couple of years. They made bathtubs, showers, sinks etc. It then burned and the building was gutted by the fire and the roof was damaged so badly that rain goes into the building. I will try to post a picture and story on www.49countynews.net soon if I can get more information.

Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.marion/2288/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Does anyone know why the Ada Hanna School fell into such disrepair after it was closed?? I'm assuming the school board sold to a local individual?? Any idea why it wasn't converted into a community center for the Bexar community?? I visited it while home for Christmas and it's terrible how such a nice building (at the time) has been totally destroyed by vandals.

Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.marion/2287/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I tried to find the Mangum Cemetery and elaborate headstone while home for Christmas. I was using the info from the Heritage of Marion County Book. I located the Mangum Cemetery Road easily but could not find the gravestone due to overgrowth. The book says "0.5 miles" from Co Rd 94 "on a hill", but there's not exactly a hill at 1/2 mile mark, which happens to end in someones driveway. Is the grave towards the end of the road or closer to CO Rd 94 in the woods on the right??

    1. [ALMARION] Spanish American War Veterans of Marion
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.marion/2285/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for assistance in trying to find records on the Spanish American War Veterans from the State of Alabama. I am trying to gather any and all information about them, and anyone who is interested in helping please feel free to contact me at Johnnyreb6@aol.com. I am currently gathering the rosters of all the Southern Volunteers who served in the Spanish American War, and as you can imagine it's pretty difficult trying to locate all these men by ones self, so I'm looking for any help that I can get. I'm looking for any artifacts, grave locations, personal documents, etc... regarding the Veterans of 1898' to 1902' from Mississippi, or any other State for that matter. This is part of a larger effort by myself and the members of the Micah John Jenkins Camp No. 164, Sons of Spanish American War Veterans, to try and make sure that the Veterans of the Spanish American War, Philippine Insurrection, and China Relief Expedition, are remembered. If anyone is interested in more information about the S.S.A.W.V. please feel free to visit our website at: http://www.geocities.com/sonsofspanamwar/, as well as for information about the General William C. Oates Outpost of Northern Alabama or the Lieutenant Richmond P. Hobson Outpost of Southern Alabama, of this Camp. Thank you all for your time, and any help would be greatly appreciated. Kenneth H. Robison II, Camp President, Micah J. Jenkins Camp No. 164, Sons of Spanish American War Veterans.

According to Stella Loden Howell's research (she did quite a bit of Loden research in the 1970's and possibly the 1980's and corresponded with my grandmother), Lyzias married Bell 2 Oct 1890. This would mean that Bell was a little over 19 years old and Lyzias was almost 22 years old when they were married.
