Dear Juanita Holliman, I was referred to you by the librarian at the Winfield Library. I live in southern Indiana (on the Ohio River) and it is very hard to get much information out of Alabama. My Harris family was in the Marion County area from about 1808 until the present. I am looking for a book of MARRIAGES OF MARION COUNTY, ALABAMA. Is there any such book? If so, do you have any idea where I might go to possibly purchase such? Any information is appreciated. Thanks for you very kind help, Ira L. Questions about the Browns of Marion County? My g-g-g grandfather Robert Brown was born 1814, died 1888 according to the information that I have. He is buried in the Brown and Ballard Cemetery. I have seen his grave marker there. His wife's name is Martha, born 1815, died 1894, I don't know her last name, she is buried beside him. I saw her grave marker there. W. M. (William Marion), my g-g grandfather is buried there, also, he married Susan Tice/Theiss? According to my information, she was born January 12, 1838, don't know when she died or where she is buried. We did not find a grave marker for her. If anyone knows anything about her, I would appreciate it if you would share it with me. ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour

To BamaGramma and other Brown Researchers, I have the following: Robert Martin Brown b. April 18, 1833, Tennessee m. December 14, 1858, Bibb County, Alabama m. Martha Adeline Shuttlesworth, d/o John & Millicent (Loveless) Shuttlesworth d. September 2, 1920, Bibb County, Alabama Robert, s/o William Brown and Martha ? Child: James Marion Brown, married Margaret Ellajane Deason Is this the Robert Brown that BamaGramma mentioned in her query of July 5, 2007 on the ALBIBB list? Is this the Robert Brown buried in the Brown and Ballard Cemetery, near Hamilton, Alabama? Which is the correct name of the son, William Marion or James Marion? Did Robert and Martha have other children? Did James and Margaret have children? Ira L. Harris III A descendant of Azael Daniel Harris Part of the line of Robert Harris of Ware Creek, New Kent County, Virginia
Actually, I think that Rebecca Ann Brown (born 1850) and the William M Brown born in 1835 were first cousins. Rebecca was the daughter of William M. (born c 1817) and Rebecca (c. 1813). According to the 1850 census of Marion County, AL, the elder William M. Brown lived next to Robert Brown (born c. 1815) and his wife Martha. They had a 14 year old son named William M. Also liviing in the household was Robert's mother Mary, aged 59. You may want to look at the Whatley, Whaley spellings also. Allen Bannister who is buried at Pikeville Cemetery was married 3 times and one of his wives(1st as I remember) was a Whatley. Also, John & Malinda Veal Orear who came to Walker Co. in 1860 had 2 daughters to marry into Whatley family in Franklin Co., TN area. Frankie & Moses Loyd who came to Glen Allen near Winfield by 1817 was gr. aunt of these girls who married Whatley. I know that Loyd, Orear, Kelly younger relatives followed Frankie & Moses to this area with Orear brothers Martin coming to Walker Co. in 1830s & John by 1850 and Loyds/Kellys found land just across the MS line more to their liking. BTW, Martin Orear's family were very active in the mining industry in early mining in Walker Co. ----- Original Message ----- From: <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: <ALMARION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 08, 2007 10:29 PM Subject: Re: [ALMARION] Logan Virgil WATLEY Family > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: djudson1957 > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.marion/2317.1.1/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > Thanks,it's a start > > Important Note: > The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
