Brumley(57) with wife, Handly B. (46), and children Kirmet M?, Avon M., Doyle W., William E., Chester P. This appears to be the same family as the ones mentioned on the 1920 census. Perhaps, Handly B. is Bessie L.. Do you know when Bessie died? Or if William and Bessie divorced? William A. and Bessie Brumley can also be found on the 1910 census for Cloverdale, Lauderdale County, Alabama. There are 3 children listed: Zella , Arie ?, and May. Zella is six. So I'm wondering if William A. and Bessie married around 1904? Do you have birth, marraige, or death records for William A. Brumley? I could not find these online and did not find William A. and Bessie Brumley on the 1900 census for Mississippi and Alabama. Zella is stated as being born in Tennessee. I found a Robert Brumley with Pearle Brumley in Jackson, Tenn. on the 1900 census and believe this may be my grandfather. Perhaps William A. and Bessie Brumley were in Tenn. in 1900 also.

I am working on finding out who was Armstead's parents. It has been a long process but it keeps pulling at me. Newton had 3 children, John Stanley Waters (do you think Stanley might be a family name?), Annis Waters (named after his mother-in-law) and Lela Elizabeth Waters. The family story goes that he named her from the letters of his mother's name. I would love to know who is digging for Newton. I will keep your address if I find anything. Fran

Now, I know from my Aunt that the Brumley's moved quite a bit across Ala. and Miss. and Tishomingo County is one of the places where my grandfather's siblings settled. It may be that we are related. Contact me at cwatan1@lsu.edu and maybe we can flesh out some of these details. Take care.

I have completely finished transcribing THE VERNON PIONEER and am currently working on THE VERNON CLIPPER. There are lots of references to Marion County and Pikeville in the papers. Some issues of THE PIONEER contain the Marion County Directory and one paper has an article by the Marion County Teachers Society of the 1870's I have submitted everything that I have transcribed to the Lamar County websites that I know of. Hopefully, they will be posted soon. However, they are available NOW at www.newspaperabstracts.com under Alabama - Lamar County. If anyone wishes to have a hard copy of the papers in book form they will still be available. A complete set of THE PIONEER has been donated to the Vernon Library (Lamar County) and Winfield Library (Marion County). They are being processed and will be available soon. THE PIONEER is divided into 3 books - one for the years 1875-6 ($20) , one for 1877 ($40) , and one for 1878 ($40). If anyone wants all 3, the cost is $85 for the set. ( If you have already ordered the complete set at full price, please expect a refund check from me next week). After I get a full year of the CLIPPER done, it will also be available in book form. (No price set for it yet, as I am not sure how much it will cost to get it printed). If anyone wants a photocopy of the actual articles of the paper, they are available for 50 cents per page + postage. I hope everyone enjoys reading these papers as much as I have. Keep watching the websites as I am continuing to transcribe and post them as I get them done. A fellow researcher Veneta McKinney
