    3. There is an account of the Jacob Franks Jr. family (b. Hyde Co., NC, 1780) published in the wonderful Heritage of Marion County book published in 2000. The article was submitted by Mary Faye Jones Motes, Belle Glade, Florida. 2. I NOW BELIEVE THIS IS MARVIN ALSEY HUGES REGISTRATION CARD. I HAVE SEEN THE CARD, IT SAYS DUKE, BUT THE REGISTRAR, W.H. CARPENTER, ALSO FILLED OUT MY GREAT UNCLE GORDON'S CARD, AND THE 'DUKE' IS WRITTEN THE SAME ON BOTH CARDS, BUT THE SIGNATURES DIFFER....I THINK CARPENTER NOT ONLY GOT MARVIN'S NAME WRONG, BUT SIGNED IT WRONG, FOR HIM. > > > > > > Can anyone identify this Duke? 3. Hi Dorothy, I talked to my aunt a little while ago. She remembered aunt Ila had 4 boys and 1 girl. Herman, Earnie, Ozell, Winford and Erma. I had said Ila had died at Lister Hill Hospital, but my aunt said she died in the nursing home, which after she said it I remembered her being in a nursing home. Ila is buried in Memory Gardens at Hamilton. She thought John Austin was buried there also. She is not sure where the rest of them are. She said Erma had moved to Selma where Ernie was, but she didn't know if she was buried in Selma or if she was brought back to Hamilton. She said Herman stayed in Hamilton, but she did not know where he was buried. My guess would be Memory Gardens if he was buried in Hamilton. I think that's about the only cemetery I haven't been to there. She thought Ernie was probably buried in Selma. She said Winford lived in Red Bay and was probably buried there. She thought Winford's wife's name was Helen, but wasn't sure. Do you have these kids listed for Ila? Is Paul another son or is Paul a first or middle name for one of the ones I listed? I'm going to post this to the Marion County list also in case somebody else has some info. Take care, Randy

    1. Re: Re: Lookup in Dorothy Stalcup's cemetery books
    2. Thanks, Randy. We've talked before, haven't we.....about where Littleton Lindsey was buried? You might be interested to know that my son and I have come to the conclusion that your sources are correct, our 'missing' Dukes and Littleton and Rhoda Lindsey are buried at Bethlehem Methodist Church cemetery. We've been in touch with a Duke descendant who is a marine archeologist, and he will possibly be taking soundings of the long unmarked strip in the Bethlehem cemetery, so that we can know how many graves are there. I think, since the land for the church was donated by my great grandfather John Duke, that it would be reasonable to assume that the early burials there are his family. I expect (if we do the soundings), we will find a number of graves. I think Meredith Duke, my gg grandfather is buried there, as is his wife who was also Littleton Lindsey's wife. And John Duke's brother Ensley , who died during the civil war, and his sister Nancy, who married Josiah Kennedy, but died young. I suppose the other brother James could be buried there, for his widow is (she married John Russell Irvin). Kind of a relief, I feel I have been chasing my tail. :) Really appreciate you asking your folks about Austin and Ila. I know so little, tho I do have an excellent photo of their eldest son Paul. Do ask if he has children living in Selma for me. Thanks a bunch. PS are you related to the Ruth Palmer who married Leamon Duke? > > From: "Randy Palmer" <rpalmer@dmci.net> > Date: 2005/07/26 Tue PM 01:02:12 EDT > To: ALMARION-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: Lookup in Dorothy Stalcup's cemetery books > > I never met Earnie (that I remember of) but I do remember Erma and > Herman were deaf mutes.
