Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RS.2ADE/1293.1 Message Board Post: I'm not sure if the road goes all the way from Pikeville to the grave. I have always gone from the Lamar County Road. In Guin, go toward the swimming pool. Turn right onto Highway 16. Go about 3 miles (more or less) until you get to Military Road. Turn Right onto Military Road to the crossing. Veer to the left onto the Unknown Soldier's grave. It is just off to the side of the road. Someone else may be able to give you better directions from Pikeville, but this will get you there as well.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RS.2ADE/1293 Message Board Post: I am trying to get directions to the unknown soldier's grave in Pikeville. I remember going there one night while in high school--seems like there was a metal barrier around it and it was on the right side of the road going in. I know that it is out "unknown soldier" road to the left off country club road, but was unable to find it a few weeks back(during the day). I'm assuming that it is in the woods off of "unknown soldier" road. Also, are the depressions out that way the old Military Trail?

    1. Pickard Family of Marion Co., Alabama
    2. Katie Johnston
    3. I wish to hear from any of the Pickard family that are descended from John Pickard and Susan Edwards; The John and Susan Pickard family lived in Cass County, Ga;, they went to Marion Co:, Ala. some time in the 1850's to work in a thread factory. The factory was established by Mel Allen. The settlement and neighborhood was known as Allen's Factory. Here the first Pickard and King families were buried. This cemetery is described in CEMETERY INSCRIPTIONS OF MARION CO., ALA. Vol I. By 1860, John and Susan were living in Marion Co., Ala. John and Susan remained there until their deaths; They are buried in the old Allen's Factory Cemetery. Some of the children with descendants' in this area were; Henry Duncan 'Dunk' Pickard who married Mollie Caroline King John Richard 'Dick' Pickard who married 3 times 1st to Elizabeth who died by 1870. 2nd to ElRutha S. McCollough and 3rd to Ida E. Adkins Mary Margaret A. Pickard who married Dennis Miller Charlotte Tabitha Pickard married William Pruitt/Prewit Underwood from Marion Co., Ala. they moved to Texas in the 1880's Malone Emiline PICKARD married in Marion Co., Ala. Felix Houston Gilbert Corbell from Ms. they too moved to Texas by 1870. Catherine 'Kit' M. Pickard and Susan M.J. 'Jim' Pickard lived at Bear Creek and died in Marion Co., Ala. I'm unable to locate any marriage record for either of them. Susan M.J. 'Jim' did have offspring. I would love to have someone to fill in any gaps. Thanks Katie Johnston

Mrs. White's mother was a sibling to Judge John Dabney Terrell, Sr. and George Washington Terrell, Sr. Descendants of Lewis White/Elizabeth Mozley White were still living at Pikeville in census of 1900.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RS.2ADE/70.319.1 Message Board Post: Carole, My grandmother said that she thought that Jane Williams Scott was a daughter of Steve Williams. Other researchers say his name was Stephen. The last census that Jane was listed on was the 1880 Marion County, AL census where she is listed as head of household, age 73, b. SC. Living in her household were two of her granddaughters, Martha Brumley, age 19 and Samantha M. Nichols, age 17. Samantha was married and her spouse William R. Nichols, age 21 is also listed with them. Samantha's name was Samantha Margaret and she was called Margaret. Martha and Samantha Margaret were daughters of Peter and Jane Scott's daughter Elizabeth who married David Brumley. Could Janes's father be Stephen Williams who is listed in the household of George W. Williams, 1850 Itawamba County, MS census. Stephen is listed on that census as age 77, born SC. Is he the same Stephen Williams who is buried at Tremont Methodist Church, Itawamba County, MS? Peter and Jane Scott lived in Marion County, AL near the Franklin County line. It's not very far from where they lived in the Single Springs Community over to Tremont, MS. Also, Franklin County, AL early land records list a Stephen Williams and a George W. Williams who lived near where Williams Sanctuary Church and cemetery are now located. This area is near the Single Springs Community. See these land records posted to Franklin County, GenWeb.
