Dec 27, 1847; d. April 17, 1905. George married 3 times. His wives were Frances Catherine Dickinson, Nellie C. Armstrong, and Mahala Catherine Adkins. The children of George and Frances (Dickinson) Weaver were Sarah Jane Weaver (never married), Vina Catherine Weaver (married George W. Tidwell), John Wilson Weaver (possibly married), George Thomas Weaver (married Mary Jane Mullinax), Samuel Peter Weaver (married Mary Emmaline Burleson, also my great grandparents), and Zebulon Weaver (left Alabama about 1900 and was never heard from again). The children of George and Nellie (Armstrong) Weaver were Austrilla Weaver (married David Charles "Dee" Darty), James Gather Weaver (married Usley Jane Burleson, sister of Mary Emmaline), Tennessee Mylindy Weaver (married Lawyer Avery Downs Poore), and Rebecca Francis Weaver (died as an infant). The children of George and Mahala (Adkins) Weaver were Jethro Louis Weaver (married Delma Gann) and Rachel Lou Quincy Weaver (married Alex Sylvestor "Vestor" Gann, brother of Delma Gann). If you have information for these families please contact me at my e-mail address. I have a couple of family websites. http://www.tribalpages.com/tribes/donnajean or http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~masonweaver/index.htm#TOC. Both sites have pictures of Weaver descendants.

I was also told that John Beattie raised them and he had two children by Rachel Matilda. I have a picture of Sarah Elisabeth Jane Dykes-Baughn, with two of her daughters that were named Emmeline Matilda Baughn-Davis, and Elisabeth Jane Baughn- Cagle. I questioned an Aunt that knew the story, she passed away last year and she mentioned some other surname of Dickinson as being the actual father of at least my Sarah,,,?? Please contact me, as I am interested in getting what information you can provide, as some of the stories are just that stories, nothing to really go by. Only names. I am very interested in the photo. Would love to see it, and I also have a tribalpages site I would love you to see. Thank you, Linda

Who was her father? I'm a bit confused by your information. Did Sarah marry a DYKES? Rachel Matilda DYKES was the sister of my ancestor Martha Emmeline DYKES who married James Knox Polk CHASTAIN. Both were children of Zilpha Delilah HOWELL and Thomas G[olleher?] DYKES. She appears on the 1900 census of Winston Co., AL with husband John BEATTIE (variously spelled). I believe she was his second wife. I believe I may have a xeroxed picture of her with some grandchildren. I have more on the ancestry of Rachel's parents but not much on her. I will do a little digging to see what I can come up with.

My Joseph Harper, I believe also had a brother, John Givens Harper, who also died in the war leaving behind his wife and children. They lived in Lowndes Co., Ms. at the time and my Joseph lived in Marion Co. John Givens had a son named Erastus Octavius Harper. Erastus lived not far from my gg grandfather in Lowndes Co., Ms. as adults raising their families and caring for their mother's. By adulthood, Erastus' mother had remarried and so had Joseph's, to what I could understand. Any information you may have to help me complete this line and understand it will be wonderful. I have been searching for over 15 years on this line. My email is janice_s42@yahoo.com Look forward to hearing from you soon. Janice

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: DYKES FLOWERS GOLLIHER HOWELL BROCK Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RS.2ADE/1092.1.1.2 Message Board Post: Harold, It is my opinion that your John D. DYKES was the son of Stephen B. DYKES and Smitha Jane FLOWERS and not the son of Thomas G[olleher?] DYKES and Zilpha Delilah HOWELL. Stephen was Thomas' younger brother by about 5 years. They were children of Daniel DYKES and Elizabeth GOLLIHER who were married in 10 Mar 1810 in Livingston Co., KY which is right on the border with Illinois (separated by the river). Daniel and Elizabeth are found on the 1810 census of Livingston Co., IL on the same page with her father and brothers and (if memory serves) his father, also named Stephen DYKES. Daniel and Elizabeth were still alive in 1860 in Franklin Co., AL. "John D. DYKES" was aged 1 1/2 on the 1850 census. However, his first cousin John C. DYKES, son of Thomas and Zilpha, was not born until about 1851 or 1852 and is given as aged 8 in 1860 census and not given in 1850. Thomas G. DYKES (undoubtedly, but no proof, named for his maternal grandfather Thomas GOLLIHER) was in Chickasaw Co., MS in 1850 while brother Stephen was in Marion Co., AL. Both brothers were in Itawamba Co., MS in 1860 where Stephen again was in 1870. Thomas' widow Zilpha and son John C. were in Marion Co., AL in 1870. John was 17 and listed as going to school. In 1880 Zilpha is on the census page following John and Nancy C. DYKES (your John D. and Nancy BROCK). Whereabouts of John C. DYKES are unknown. In 1882 Zilpha applied for a mother's pension for her son Thomas L. DYKES who died in prison during the Civil War (Union side). Many northern Alabamans fought for the Union. The pension was pronounced abandoned and closed out in 1887 due to inactivity for 3 years, probably because she had died. Her son, John C. DYKES [this is how his name appeared in the pension] stated in an affadavit in 1882 that he was 30. Your John is consistently given as 10, 20, and 30 on the 1860-1880 censuses, albeit as 1 1/2 in 1850. A John D. DYKES born Jun 1850 is living in Pontotoc Co., MS in 1900 with wife of 27 years named Catherine. Both Stephen B. and Thomas G. DYKES were blacksmiths; although Thomas G. is also referred to as Dr. DYKES in the above pension application. I have some information on the FLOWERS, a little on the GOLLIHERs and quite a bit on the DYKES ancestry and would be happy to share with anyone interested in the line.
