    2. In a message dated 1/2/99 3:48:27 AM Central Standard Time, ALMADISO-D- [email protected] writes: << What sources would be the best for me to be able to find out about his residence, and property, please? >> According to Marilyn Davis Barefield's Old Huntsville Land Office Records & Military Warrents, p. 57, Sterling Smith filed at Huntsville 9 Dec 1834, on section 7, township 1, range 5 west, listing Limestone County (next door) as his home. You might find further information in the similar published records for Nashville, Tuskaloosa, and Cahaba land offices. Remember, these are original grants only (I think), so he could have bought widely from earlier investors without appearing here. There are also a couple of George Smith's in the area, but none listas George Sterling or George S. Smith. Barefield has a similar book for the other Alabnama land offices I mentioned, and I'm sure it won't be hard to get those for the Nashville land sales. Al Hill
