    1. Re: ALMADISO-D Digest V98 #136
    2. Excellent question!! There certainly SHOULD be plenty, but they're not easily available to non-locals--if they exist. The one county history I know is virtually useless for genealogical purposes. (James Record's A Dream Come True, but Vol. I is all that I have, and I may be judging harshly). Marilyn Davis Barefield's Old Huntsville Land Records and Military Warrents is excellent--as are all of her Land Office and County Histories. Elliott's ASnnals of Northwest Alabama is quite helpful for what it covers, but I don't know anything comparable for Madison or Limestone county. Walker's History of Limestone County is interesting, but not of much value for genealogy. John Knox' History of Morgan County is much the same. Alabama Mortality Schedule -- 1850 is quite helpful in the limited time period it covers. Once you get past these, there's not much left unless you go all the way back to Saunders' Early Settlers of Alabama (1899) or to McClellan's Early History of Limestone County, Alabama (1881, reprint 1966). I, for one, would be most interested in helping to build a bibliography of sources for all of the land in the bend of the river--any part of which might have been called "Madison County" for a few years, there, to avoud being removed by Indians or by US Army troops.
