If anyone can help me, I would be most grateful. I recently received a piece of information from a kind woman and I would like to find out if this person is my ancestor. I am doing my research from Pennsylvania but my search for Oscar H BENJAMIN is in Huntsville, Al. In the 1870 census, Oscar listed himself as a Bar Keeper. After 1870 he and his family seem to disappear. This is what the kind woman sent me: HUNTSVILLE ADVOCATE October 17, 1877 One evening of same day, O.H. Benjamin, who was serving as night policeman also fell dead in beer saloon of Wm. Struve. Middle aged man of quiet, unobtrusive manners. Leaves wife and several children. Now this may or may not be the person I am looking for. I believe that I cannot sent for a death certificate in AL because it is prior to 1908. Has anyone here done research in Huntsville? Could you tell me where I might be able to find some other record of his death and perhaps get a full name? If anyone out there has any hints or suggestions or knows of some places I should look, please let me know. I appreciate any tips! Sue sue.thompson@ctdi.com
