I'm looking for information about my great great grandfather, W J Carter. He was born in Lincoln Co, TN in 1837 and joined the Alabama 27th Infantry CSA in New Market in March of 1862.They were known as the New Market Rebels. But W J is not listed in the Madison Co census of 1860. Was New Market a part of Madison Co in 1860? I know after the war W J settled in Marshall Co where he died in 1910.
