List Members, This link should be helpfully to those of you wanting to know where places are located in Madison Co. http://www.dimplesattic.net/MapHTML/index.html It includes scanned sections from a very large map of Madison Co., Al. These maps are very detailed showing all the small cemeteries, small towns, Cherokee boundary lines, coves and hollows, mountains big and small, and is blocked off by the township sections. The original map is about 2 ft x 4 ft. I have scanned it into townships. These were scanned in to a. jpg format. This map was printed in 1978 but is no longer in print. You may view it on line or download as many sections as you wish.I feel you will find it to be a helpful tool in your research. Hold the mouse pointer over each section and a box will pop-up that list some of the names of places in each township. Click on the section you want for a larger view. Good Luck, Louise
Could you please see if a Johnnie D. Preston was buried in Madison Co.? Thanks.
Yes, Mary thanks anyway and my two cents says I own cemetery books for several states and I never bought one until I found out if my ancestors were in it. I do not own any for Alabama and now I probably will not because I have no way of knowing whether it contains my ancestors. I have however ask all of the family still there and friends to please go transcribe a cemetery or part of one and to ask there groups to help. If and when they do, it will be posted to Madison county US Gen Web for everyone to do their own look ups. As you can see I support free genealogy. I have transcribed six cemeteries in my area and put them on line in their counties and I have received so much help from people who found relatives related to my relatives that emailed me that even though I didn't do it to be paid I feel like I have been repaid for it many times. If the owners of the copyright on that book really want to sell books they should post the surnames from it on this list and tell everyone where it is available for sale. In Posey County, Indiana for example, a woman who has a book on Posey County cemeteries does lookups for the list and when she does the look up ask if they would be interested in the book. I bought three books from her. Thanks Becky

Can anybody tell us where we can buy the cemetery books for Madison Co., AL Jackie West
I second that! I just attended a seminar this weekend along with a book fair and EVERYONE was looking through the indexes for surnames PRIOR to purchasing anything. Personally speaking, I know that I would buy a book without thinking twice if it contained my ancestor. Just my honest opinion. The 1840 Madison Co census has just been posted along with the 1830 census at http://www.rootsweb.com/~cenfiles/al/madison/ John Thurman is listed with no Whites, 2 colored males age 10-24 and 1 colored male age 24-36. There are no slaves listed. One person is listed as being employed in manufacturing. You did not give apage number and we do not yet have our search engine up, so I will advise you to look up the Dines families in the 1830 Census posted there. Hope this helps. Earnie R. Mary, It really seems as though you have helped alot of people this week. Thank you. Now, when you have this information from Mary, if you want it posted in Madison County for other researchers to find you could email the coordinator for the county and ask him if he would like to post the information on the cemetery you have for the family you have and you could help alot of others. Here is his email address: white@hiwaay.net . he will also post the obits for the families and other information you may have. Just a thought Mary are there any Loggins, Harrisons, Hobsons listed in Stateline Cemetery? Thank you in advance. Becky
