    1. War of 1812
    2. On September 20, 1814 in Fayetteville, TN, Samuel Miller enlisted into the West TN Militia,Col Lowery and Lt. Col Hammons. He enlisted for 6 months but ended up serving 7 months. I have read about the Regiment, and tried to get information from the TN Archives on Samuel Miller. Their microfilm wasn't legible so they told me to write the National Archives. I received yesterday from the National Archives Samuel's record. Included in the records was a document showing that "Samuel Miller of Madison County Mississippi Territory" hired John Brahan to sue TN for the monies due him for his service in the war. He apparently received the monies and was given a Military Land Warrent for land in Madison County, Al. (The TN State Archives has no record of this and said they had never heard of anyone getting a military land warrent in Alabama) I know that Samuel was born in 1870 in VA and that he purchased more land in Madison County, Al in 1819. I had dated Samuel's arrival in Madison County to the 1819 date until I received the information from the National Archives. It now appears he was living there earlier. Does anyone know if Samuel Miller was living in Tennessee prior to the War of 1812, or if he came up from Madison County, Al to join the War. Sorry for such a long posting. 1. Smith/Bulman
    2. Hi Listers, This is what I have so far. Some of the Smith children are supposedly born in Marshall Co., AL. On the 1880 census for Jackson Co., AL they were in the Woodville area. I decend from Thomas Layafette Bulman b June 15, 1839 Madison Co. AL and Serena Elizabeth Pence b 1838 Madison Co., AL daughter Rachel Elizabeth Bulman b abt 1860 AL. Rachel Elizabeth Bulman b 2 June 1860 Jackson Co., AL was married to Andrew T. Smith b 1853 AL on April 13, 1875 in Jackson Co., AL bondsman Andrew T. Smith and GG Lilley. Children of Andrew T. Smith and Rachel E. Bulman are Rosey b 1875 AL James Franklin b Sept 12, 1877 AL (my gGrandfather) Edwin T b 1878 AL David Edward b 1880 AL Annie b 1882 AL Darwin W. b 1884/6 AL Canada Erwin b July 24 1886 John Henry b 1889 AL ( may have been born in Marshall Co. ) Willie A. b 1892 AL James Franklin Smith's death certificate list father as John, Cannada Smith's death certificate list Jesse, and John Henry's list Randy. Now it could have been three seperate father's but don't think so. By March 3 1897 Andrew T. Smith was deceased and Rachel married Enoch Elias Futch on March 3, 1897 in Honey Grove, Fannin Co., TX. She was on the 1900 Fannin Co., TX with some of the Smith children. Rachel and Enoch children are Joseph T. Futch TX Pearl Futch TX Grace Futch TX That I know of. I am looking for siblings of Rachel. Does anyone know who or if she had any? I also need help looking the parents and siblings of Andrew T. Smith. Any and all corrections or additions to the Smith and Futch children would be appreciated. Pat

    2. Plevna was called Hickory Flats. At this moment I can not find my photocopy. If you look in the Madison county heritage book in the communities section for Plevna you will find the same information I photocopied. I have family that lived in that area and until I found that information I was completely lost. Joetta

    1. Cemetery Books
    2. I have Vol. I and Vol. II of Dorothy Scott Johnson's books on Madison County Cemeteries. They were well worth what I paid for them. Dorothy has done free lookups for me several times, and been most gracious when I call to ask about certain families. She is very knowledgeable about Madison County families and the cemeteries in the county.....even ones not in her books. I, too, have spent a ton of money over the past 35 years on genealogy books that didn't have any information on my lines. I'm happy to say that was not the case with Dorothy's books. I had looked for one line for many years and found them in one of the cemetery books. I didn't even know they had moved out of Tennessee into Alabama. Peggy Nerren Grisamore PEKIPAN@aol.com

    3. I have ALWAYS offered a free surname lookup. I, too, hate to spend lots of money only to find my family is not listed (but have done so countless times). For that reason I am only too glad to look up a surname, and in some cases where there are many, of a particular surname I will look up the given name - but in most cases I will not give dates but I have even done that. As far as someone copying a few cemeteries and giving the information over the net is concerned, that is wonderful. Keep in mind, however, there is a lot of difference between copying 3 or 4 cemeteries and copying 400 or 500 then going to the expense of publishing them. Thanks. 2. I, for one, understand and appreciate Dot's work on her book and want to say thank you to her for it. What I said was not aimed specifically at her or in deed any author. I just believe if you want to sell your books that you work so hard on then you should appreciate the inquiries shown for people listed in the books. Their survivors are your potential customers! If any list ask for a complete transcription of a book that would be unacceptable, however a few look-ups from that book should only help your sales as long as credit is given to the title of the book and its author and if asked how that person obtained their copy of the book and where if possible one might get a copy. Thanks Becky
